From Princess to President

SHS going to Augustana may explain why we haven’t seen much of her in the public eye helping to save what little is left of the SD Democratic Party. I know behind the scenes she has done some fund raising, but that is about it.

As for leaving Raven, I’m not saying SHS was fired, or asked to resign, highly unlikely. I just find it a bit odd that you would take almost a 50% pay cut to take on a higher profile job.

Could it be that SHS saw the writing on the wall with Raven not doing as well as they were when she got on board? That, and the fact being a University President is a pretty good gig, even if a pay cut was involved. Not sure, but it is quite a transition from Congress person to corporate attorney to university president, just saying.

And then there is the question about Pam Homan. Was she angling for the job?

13 Thoughts on “Did Herseth-Sandlin have to leave Raven Industries?

When did Angela Kennecke start writing posts for this blog?

  2. It’s a smart move, I think. It is either a career move, or positioning for 2020 against Rounds….time will tell.

It not unusual for politicians to find a home in academia.
Abbott (USD), Beddow (DWU), and Wilson (SDSMT) have all been university presidents and politicians. I think that even ID Weeks (USD) was a Democratic candidate or activist back in the day, if I am not mistaken.

What I find fascinating is that seven years after 2010, Noem eventually got her degree while in Congress, while Herseth in that same time frame not only taught at Noem’s alma mater, but is now an university president. I would love to see a rematch of those two (“Bluedog”/’Auggie Doggie” v. “Tea Party” “Yellow Bunny”), but it probably won’t happen, but Rounds should be concerned, because Herseth could beat him in 2020, i think……

  3. Theres no need for a democrat lobbyist in a republican controlled government. Her job was over with the election.
Did you notice numbbrain noem announced wanting changes to the farm bill. Thats Raven’s money talking.

  4. First off theres no need to let those posts through let alone degrade yourself by replying to him with even more foulness.

Steph wasn’t DEM… Thats a new level of hubris.

Secondly, could the problem with SD Dems be that their always associated with you lefty wingnuts therefore not palatable to a educated electorate or not liberal enough for lefty wingnuts like you to keep an office?

Is there any possibility the close tie between MMM and Rob Oliver was another factor in pursuing SHS for this job? It surely opens the field for any political move MMM desires.

Larry Kurtz, your mouth need a bar of soap.

  6. That Augie job comes with free housing, you know. Adds a bit to the salary.

  7. Also, all your travel gets paid for, other expense “allowances”. Maybe that cut”s not as big as it may seem.

  8. Other person are also included.

Maybe it’s just something that really fills her bucket. Not always about money…after all, you’re an artist 🙂

I respect Sandlin public positions and service. There are lawyers that can’t be dishonest for corporate schemes. Her political career was somewhat tranquil but it’s a credential that works for a post in education. I’m reminded of Abnor. There are uneventful political types who carry their prestige into the private sector. I’m reminded of Jimmy Carter. Not much presidential performance but reknowned building homes for indigent families.

Mr. Kurtz, not worth a response.

  11. Ruf, not to mention the corporate boards she can sit on can quickly add up.

Does her husband still commute between here and DC to work as a lobbyist?
