Dan, turn off the FOX news, take a deep breath, and relax;

Not to mention, for some of you, I imagine there is motivation to mix income groups in order to infuse more liberal voting blocs throughout the city. Low income housing, scattered around the edges of much higher income populations is one form of redistricting that the subsidized developers and property managers are more than motivated to help with. If you get enough of this stuff going on the edges, you can guarantee a diffused conservative voting population in time.

Once you finish laughing hysterically, you have to realize, this is coming from a guy who compares bicyclists who ride on paved roads to chicken eggs. I have seen Mr. King in action at a Lincoln County Commission meeting, and I have seen and heard his constituents, no surprise he got elected.

First off, most younger voters who preside in apartments DON’T VOTE or their registration address is outdated. Secondly, Dan might be surprised to find that their are quite a few registered younger conservatives.

“I’m looking at what’s in the best interest of property owners and what the ordinance says,” Starr said. “There’s no liberal conspiracy going on and I find it highly offensive that he would suggest that.”

While I agree with Pat, what offends me more is that such prejudice morons get elected to office, but spend a day in some Canton coffee shops, and you will understand why.

  1. “But send a day in some Canton coffee shops, and you’ll understand why.” I enjoy reading your blog but this is over the top ignorant. Who in hell do you think you are? I don’t understand how a person who often promotes tolerance and inclusiveness can can look down his nose at anyone. But just in case you think that the only educated people in this area are from Sioux Falls, make sure you ask Commissioner Starr about his time growing up in Canton. I have held you in high esteem for past stances on certain issues. I have understood and not agreed with certain positions you have held: but, I am insulted by the ignorant and intolerant statement you made in this article. Regardless of the stupidity of Commissioner King, we are good people and don’t need you to bash us as the hairy, unwashed, deplorables.

  2. Whoa, struck a nerve. All I am saying is Dan King seems to be reflective of his constituency. If you don’t think Mr. King is reflective of you, do everything in your power to get rid of him.

  3. Besides being an arrogant asshat, King misses the real point. The reason they are building these low-income communities is because the city council keeps allowing the Sanfords, Averas, Billions, and now Howes to tear down scores of affordable single family homes in the heart of Sioux Falls. Costello wouldn’t build this without the tax breaks. It’s a vicious cycle.

    While I don’t like the proximity to these existing homes either, the reality is that 85th Street will explode as a commercial corridor in the next 5-10 years. Dan and his neighbors better get used to it.

  4. Dan King is not my district or Canton’s district. He Has an address in the city of Sioux Falls and represents district 3, the smallest district of the county and encapsulated entirely within Sioux Falls city limits. So please, in the future, before you spout off about what the People of Canton or rural Lincoln County can do about a Commissioner from urbanSioux Falls; please perform an adequate amount of research. Also, etiquette and manners would suggest that an apology to the people in the coffee shops of Canton are in order.

  5. I am truly sorry to the people of Canton who drink coffee inside buildings for that use, by comparing you to Dan King. Now go back to doing what you are good at, hating wind and progress.

  6. Lincoln County has a reputation for ‘breaking wind’. Try some Beano.

  8. I don’t hate wind power. What I hate is that when wind power is only able to be profitable with huge mega wind farms, that take huge mega tax incentives. If we’re going to give tax breaks why not give them to individual house owners, landowners, farmsteads, etc., Who would then construct size appropriate wind towers on their own property. They would then use the power generated by the wind for their own use and sell the excess back to the power company. Of course, to accomplish this and to make it work we would have to ensure that regular ordinary people would get the tax break. In addition, we would have to change the law so that the buyer (power companies) would not be able to lowball the individual energy producer. We need to be able to do this and trust the market to set the energy price. Not have our legislative process hijacked by the power companies, their lobbyists, and government officials who are in their pocket. See, I don’t hate wind power I just see a better way of doing it. The last thing I want to do is give a tax break (Or tax incentive) to the rich investors and not find a way to make it accessible for everybody.

  9. Thomas, they should do what they did in a county in Oregon that resisted wind energy, give every county resident a dividend check.

  10. At some point there will be enough wind propellers to take the earth out of orbit. Is this a secret plan to dodge a future end of the world Yucatán style meteor? Maybe ask Wikileaks.

  11. just an fyi dan didn’t get elected he was the only one who ran…

    also i know dan v well and he gets emotional and fires things off quickly but he did give an apology and toned the things he said in that email down maybe do some research bro. his friend just died give him some slack. at least he isn’t as bad as the city council. i mean they really suck you can’t deny that except for that one chick
