To tell you the truth, I have no idea. There are some educated guesses, but like most crime related situations I think everyone deserves their day in court.

I do know that with my past conversations with former assistant chief, Patrick Warren that Warren did file complaints as early as 2011 against the chief over some employment issues and unauthorized vacation time. Those complaints were also sent to the city council after Warren’s termination in 2014. As far as Warren knew, no action was taken against Sideras due to Warren’s complaints.

Like I said, we will have to wait to see how this plays out. It makes me sad, because we have several fine individuals who work for the SFFD and I would hate to see the organization tarnished over the wrongdoings of their outgoing Chief.

  1. Something happened yesterday at a house Sideras owns. Then, no follow up news. Hmmm, mysteries about this man. I wondered why he suddenly retired.

  2. You will also notice that ALL Sideras videos have been taken off of the SF Youtube Channel.

  3. I have started a speculation/scenario list;

    – Bought gadgets for the FD with city money, then turned around and took the gadgets home (Theft). This is my #1 speculation. Also, with the new internal auditor, she might have seen something and said something.

    – took bribes from our new ambulance company to cover up calls OR bribes from Hultgren Construction to hide stuff from OSHA OR bribes from the FD Union.

    – Kiddie Porn

Not sure what it could be, it is pretty baffling, and of course there could be other people involved. I guess we will see if any of my scenarios play out.

  4. The City must be the alleged victim in this incident. Else, how does the City have the necessary info to justify a termination?

Given what we all know, which is that a search warrant was served at the former Fire Chief’s residence yesterday, that alone would justify at best an invoking of an administrative leave and not an immediate termination of employment, unless the City knows first hand the alleged crime. And how would the City know first hand, with the SFPD not involved in the investigation, unless the City was the actual victim of the alleged crime, which is being investigated?

  5. Those are three good guesses. All of which are criminal in nature as opposed to civil or personnel (HR) related. We’ll see if charges are forthcoming. If not, then we have our answer.

  6. if it were porn, wouldn’t he have been arrested? also, why the warrant and no arrest? are warrents sealed, and if not, why hasn’t the media taken a look at it?

  7. What could Jim have covered up with the ambulance? REMSA AND THE city council have jurisdiction over them. Not the future department. Metro communications is responsible for the data. Sffr had no part in that and had no say in who our EMS provider is.

  8. The crime had to be on the job and blatant to receive an immediate firing. Pictures or merchandise would be the only thing I could think would need a search of residence.

Merchandise would have to be on a city expense account not meant for personal use.

Pictures could be of fellow firefighter not just kiddy.

  9. I think the theft scenario is the best one. It’s funny how this is coming out now after a new auditor takes over. Did she uncover something?

As for the PP scenario, there were rumors circulating that Sidearis and Franken were having conversations with PP before the RFP process started about what ‘benefits’ the SFFD would get from using PP as a provider instead of the other competitors. Can’t be proven, but the rumor was out there.

  10. Now were learning it was Jackley who order the search. Parametic Plus is in deep shit with the feds for kickback charges. I thought is was also a bit odd a fire chief was going to be head of South Dakota Healthcare Coalition.

I think you could be right.

  11. I’m in SoCal and I’m riveted. If malfeasance, why are police excluded? The radio silence and lack of transparency are speaking volumes!
