I really enjoyed this interview. I wasn’t really sold on Billie, but after this interview, I felt I could trust him. He really knows the issues, and I can’t wait for him to take on his Republican opponent.

  1. There is something very peaceful and charming about this guy. He definitely has the message down, but do we as Democrats have the “I-29 corridor” down, in terms of organization, however, to make his candidacy successful?……Hopefully.

His take on the Wayfair case and seeing it from a storefront perspective is interesting, but I don’t think that a South Dakota win with a Wayfair decision is going to save small towns. Small towns have been in decline since the 1970s and the internet itself, with or without sales tax collections, is the final nail or challenge.

I agree with Scott, that we need to look at the exemptions when it comes to sales tax collections. I also think we need to take a look at the $ 24 billion in assets we have as a state through trust funds; and using some of the investment gain from these funds to replace sales tax losses, the food tax, and eventually sales taxes as a whole… It can be done….

I am also afraid, that a South Dakota win with Wayfair will let the cat out of the bag over time, where such a decision will change federalism as we know it and possibly create 50 mini federal governments…. Imagine that, having the South Dakota Republican Party responsible for creating 50 new federal governments, isn’t one enough, GOP?
