Sioux Falls City Council Agenda, May 15, 2018

Mayoral and City Council Installation Ceremony, 2 PM

Paul Tenhaken, Janet Brekke, Curt Soehl, Christine Erickson and Rick Kiley will be sworn into office for the next 4 years.

Informational Meeting, 4 PM

April Financial Report (this has NOT been posted online yet) & Audit review of Motor Vehicle Fee Revenue

Regular Council meeting, 7 PM

This is the first council meeting for the new administration and new council.

Item#1, Consent Agenda

Levitt Shell is getting $184K for professional services. No idea what those services are for but this is turning into a real money sponge for the consultants. How hard is it to move some dirt, plant some trees and build an outdoor stage?

The convention center is building quite the kitchen for a cool million.

Item #31, I guess we got $500K laying around in the entertainment tax fund, got to fix up that kitchen.

Item#32-34, Leadership Election and operations committee appointment.

I’m not sure how this will shake down, but it seems pretty certain Erickson will be the next chair. It also looks like Starr will have the support for vice-chair. I’m not sure who will join the operations committee, but I hope it is Stehly and I hope the first order of business is to have the meetings in the open.

So how many city employee parties are scheduled for Tuesday Night?

If I were Mayoral Elect TenHaken, I would just make Wednesday a city holiday for city employees, because I have a feeling many of them will be nursing a much needed hangover.

I guess some city employees have several planned parties for Tuesday night to celebrate the end of the Huether administration . . . or is it to celebrate the new administration? Not sure. Either way, I wonder if Detroit will be invited?

No worries, I’m considering having a SouthDacola Fest Tuesday Night, more details to come.

Is this some kind of parody?

Are there some journalists in this community that are so out of touch with reality that they just propose anything based on nothing and hope for results;

But the Sioux Falls sports and entertainment scene didn’t get to where it is by settling for a modest status quo. The Premier Center, Pentagon, Kirkeby-Over Stadium, even Howard Wood Field – those are among the best venues in the country for their size and level of competition.

It’s time for baseball to join the party.

While I will confess I don’t follow sports (local, college, Olympic or professional, none of the above) I do know one thing, spending taxpayer money on a new baseball stadium in Sioux Falls is not only a bad idea, it will never pass the smell test. I encourage all those who think it is a good idea to start a petition drive for a bond initiative and watch as it gets voted down 2-1.
