Why doesn’t the City of Sioux Falls have an RSS News Feed? (H/T – Robert Mehling)

Robert from the SE Podcast pointed this out to me not long ago and sent me this email today;

Maybe this is a Nothing Burger but I’m setting up a news aggregator for statewide news for my site and collecting the RSS feeds of every news producing entity in SD I can think of.  Now it’s really hard to find a major city in the US that doesn’t offer a news RSS.  In South Dakota most of the larger cities do:

I wanted to get the RSS feed for Sioux Falls but there is no link to it so I emailed the city and got this reply.
“Robert, We do not have an RSS feed for news posts.”
So I thought, wow that’s really rare and weird.  So I did some digging on their website myself and it looks like they had an RSS feed.  They shut it off in 2016.
As I’m looking at this I’m listening to Parick Lalley and you on there saying the city implemented a secret gag order in 2016…  The timing of me starting my hunt for RSS feeds and you being on the radio couldn’t have been more perfect.  Just like the timing of the RSS feed being removed and the possible gag order.
So like I said, maybe it’s nothing.  Just thought you might be interested.

It seems the mayor was bent on killing information leaks from the city hall two years ago.

A (Partial Training) Safety report about Falls Park released

What’s the point of giving us something that isn’t even complete? Seriously?!

It’s like the siding report and settlement all over again.

On top of that, it wasn’t even a real audit. That took place in 2013.

Well at least one city employee apologized for his lie . . . uh . . . I mean error;

In an email from Emergency Manager Regan Smith late Wednesday, he said he errored in calling the 2016 review an audit when addressing the media on March 19.

“I inadvertently called it an audit and did not clarify that the SDPAA findings were relayed orally to the city team in 2016,” Smith said. “But I felt it was important to make myself available regarding safety measures taken at our city’s namesake and that no additional recommendations were made in 2016 beyond those implemented in 2013.”

If you can’t trust the Risk Manager, who can you trust?

City acts like Falls Park Safety Report is like a self destructing message

How many episodes of ‘Get Smart’ has the mayor watched? Not many apparently;

The results of the work conducted by the SDPAA in 2016 were conveyed only generally at the time of the review. The SDPAA has not disseminated a report to the City.

Did the report self-destruct after five seconds? How do you take recommendations from a report if you neither get to see the full report or even have a copy of it? The lies from City Hall just keep adding up. Go, Go, Gadget Pinocchio nose!
