Sioux Falls City Council still considers ‘Public Input’ as an annoyance.
Councilor Brekke made a presentation this afternoon to make some changes to public input. Her request was simple, another 2 minutes on 2nd readings that the council has to take action.
You would think they would say ‘Yeah, that sounds fair’. But after a lot of discussion they seemed to be on the fence.
As I mention in my public input (at the end of the meeting), it is OUR TIME not theirs. And if they have a problem with listening from the public on concerns maybe they should resign and make all of our lives much easier. The 1st Amendment demands it, and I don’t give a rat’s ass how long they have to listen. It is a part of their duty as elected officials.

Baltic Mayor resigns then becomes PAID administrator
So I’ve seen some weird things in small town SD government, but this takes the cake. In one short meeting in August in the little town of Baltic, Mayor Weldland calls the meeting to order, resigns, swears in a new mayor than takes a PAID position of city administrator for $65K a year.

THE BALTIC CITY COUNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON AUGUST 14, 2018. Mayor Wendland called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
g. Mayor Wendland presented his letter of resignation as Mayor effective immediately. Grunewaldt made a motion to accept his resignation and thanked him for his service. Second by Drayer. All Ayes.
h. Jenks made a motion to appoint Scott Grunewaldt as Mayor to serve a term of 10 months until the next regular election. Second by Hotzler. All Ayes. Hoefert gave Grunewaldt the Oath of Office.
i. Grunewaldt nominated Tracy Petersen of Baltic for appointment as Alderman Ward 2. Drayer made a motion to appoint Tracy Petersen as Alderman Ward 2 for a term of 10 months until the next general election. Second by Hotzler. All Ayes. Hoefert administered the Oath of Office.
j. Personnel – deferred until after Executive Session.
Personnel – Jenks made a motion to appoint Mike Wendland as City Administrator/Economic Development Coordinator at an annual salary of $65,000 with a start date of September 4, 2018. Second by Hotzler. All Ayes.
Oh, and the rumors get even better. Mr. Wendland is said to be the preferred candidate to be appointed to the Minnehaha County Commission if one of the elected Republican incumbents chooses to resign shortly after being re-elected.
Weird Sh*t indeed.
UPDATE: Thune talks 5G Network
South Dakota US Senator John Thune brought the committee chairmanship of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation to the Sioux Falls Carnegie Town Hall on October 12, 2018 to talk about 5G internet heading our way.
This video is the post hearing press conference where we were asked by the Senator’s staff to make sure we joined in the fun.
It was difficult to record the actual meeting because the new media systems in Carnegie failed, big time, and the media was NOT happy.
South Dakota US Senator John Thune invited six local and national leaders to Sioux Falls in the hope of drawing attention to the speed and reliability of the next wave of internet.
As the committee chairmanship of the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation This trip to the Sioux Falls Carnegie Town Hall on October 12, 2018 appeared to be a way to show off how technically savvy Sioux Falls in the hope to talk about the 5G internet heading our way.
The first thing he ran into was a brand new overpriced substandard audio / video system many of us tried to make sure met the needs of the Carnegie Town Hall Chamber. The video and audio are not high quality because the $290,792 spent forced Cameraman Bruce to use a directional microphone and record the most of the hearing from the overhead screen. It’s the best we can do when given crap to work with?!?
Our previous administration left us a great raspberry to show the world we needed him?
As Congressional committee hearings go, it was timed and orchestrated (except for the equipment failures) to allow the patient presenters give their testimonies.
