The council is set to vote tonight on 1st reading of whether to go back to the 20 year rule of only having a 34% Plurality for city council races/elections.

Sioux Falls City Councilor Pat Starr was on the BNB show this morning talking about it.  He’s introducing an Ordinance this week, that would put the 50% / 34% Plurality requirement for Council elections on the ballot with the School Board election in May.

You know my feelings on it. It wasn’t broken and it should not have been changed. This was a last minute attempt to thwart certain individuals from running for council. Shameful.

  1. It’s not my habit to listen to local talk radio. My impression is that it’s just an ultra-conservative love fest. However, both of the audio files you shared here are a good listen, and you’ve done a good service to your followers to include them. Councilor Pat Starr offers a well-reasoned POV. And, my opinion of Greg Belfrage has been improved…slightly. He goes on at length in support of repealing the selfish election change that outgoing Councilor Rolfing foisted on the council.

  2. It’s unfortunate that because the counselor that submitted this change is 18 year previous to the attorney and it was voted down in retaliation and make no mistake it was a complete retaliation against lifescape votes not to vacate the street and give them free real estate, it will save the taxpayers a lot of money to go back to the way it was because it was slipped into a bill like pork is what they call it on the federal level and I call it on the local level. This is a totally divided Council and it’s unacceptable to the people because most are so not in touch with who they’re supposed to represent! We need to change this is voting Bell back to popular vote 51 precent vote and use that money for people in our communities that actually can use it and it will do some good other than her political needs!

  3. I never listen to belfrage when he is back pedaling for trump. I will listen when the topic turns local. Pat Starr is very good at his council job. Everything he touched on shows how much he cares, and truly wants the best for SF.
