Trust me, when I read this, I got a little ill;

KELOLAND On the Road will premiere April 2, 2019 at 6:30 pm CT on KELOLAND TV.  In the same spirit as the popular CBS On the Road franchise, KELOLAND On the Road will feature inspirational and interesting stories from across KELOLAND.  Former Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether will host the program.

“Every town has unique stories of life that motivate, inspire, and make folks feel good.  I couldn’t be more thrilled to work with KELOLAND to bring them to light,” said Huether.  “Watch “On the Road” one time, and you will be hooked!”

“Mike has a unique gift of engaging people and finding the hidden stories in every community,” added Jay Huizenga, Vice President and General Manager of KELOLAND Media Group.  “We look forward to what stories he will find on the road.”

Oh, he has a ‘gift’ alright, just make sure you keep him away from your City Hall’s safe. Not sure if the Stormland Crew learned anything about covering local issues last night, but I am pretty sure this wasn’t what Woodward and Bernstein were talking about. I also look at this as a way for MMM to promote himself for a higher office run eventually and (probably) getting paid to do it. Stormland really should be ashamed of this blatant self promotion, but first you have to have some shame to be ashamed. Our local TV media has completely fell off their rockers.

15 Thoughts on “Stormland TV helps promote MMM for higher office

    O.M.G. I’m tasting a little vomit. The Huizenga-Heuther bromance has been going on for quite some time, no? Didn’t Jay take Mikey on one or more NFL football game trips, and go soft as hell on their reporting of Mikey while he was mayor? Local TV news department pay is pathetic, and employees are expected to be equal parts driver, cameraman, live report uplink tech, , equipment schlepper, reporter and video editor – little if any division of labor. But, I can safely bet MMM is not going to shoot/edit his own video on trips around the state which will take at minimum 1 cameraman away from Sioux Falls for days at a time, and then require considerable post production editing time to create a finished 30-minute monthly program. So, KELO has plenty of resources for a vanity project like this, but apparently razor thin margins to afford an adult daily morning co-anchor who doesn’t butcher the English language (Sophie Heinemann). Nice professionalism, Mr. Huizenga.

    I heard months ago that MMM pitched this idea first to KSFY, and they had the good sense to show him the door.

    Meantime, Charles Kuralt just rolled in his grave.

  3. What the holy hell is that?? Why would anybody want to see that?

  4. When the audience was asked to raise their hand if they supported the image local news shows I looked over to the Kelo crew and couldn’t stop laughing. Brady was desperately scanning the room for a hand to go up.

  5. I like Brady and think he has great potential, like most young reporters who are single, he will be moving on any day now to a bigger market.

    Perhaps the first mile for KELOland On The Road can be driven over one of the decaying, pothole-infested streets in Sioux Falls – one of the legacies left by the Huether with his inattention to maintaining infrastructure.

    Don’t like it? Don’t watch it. Simple solution.

    ska – I would love to watch it, just to see how bad it is, but unless it get’s put online, I won’t.

    scott – as I understand it, Schulte, Raven and SD Farmers Union are financing it and I also guess MMM had to scrounge up his own sponsors. While I don’t have much control over a car dealership or a balloon maker, I hope members of the Farm Union let leadership know they are NOT happy about this sponsorship. FRANK! Help us out!

    Hopefully the Huether tour will acquaint citizens around the state with why Sioux Falls was glad to see him go. It’s going to be obvious he’s promoting himself. Shame on KELO for devising a sneaky tactic for him to campaign for governor. Is this a new method for illegal campaign contributions? Was having each of your children donate $1,000 not obvious enough?

    Maybe a tour of the state a la “Williams and Ree: the Movie”, only without Ree since the mayor sed there are no indians here to the germans, and instead of going to funny places and singing songs he will visit bankers and trust lawyers. He really should be out sandbagging the Tennis Centre right now.

    All the more reason to bring ‘The Caribou Show’ back.

    Oh, and be careful, being on the road can offer many temptations. Or, it could be a lot like the siding you choose, too, and its eventual ramifications:
