It’s too bad the city is suing to demolish;

At that time he told us the home was about 80% complete.

“The heating, the plumbing, the water all that, electrical stuff is done, we just got to do the fancy stuff, so our hope is to have it done, hopefully by the end of the year,” Strizheus said.

But now the city is suing Strizheus to have the home demolished and lot cleaned up.

It would make a great transitional home for people struggling with addiction. You could easily get 8-10 or even more living there.

Oh, my bad. We don’t ‘allow’ those kinds of housing in the ‘nice’ neighborhoods. We like to cram them into Whittier. The rich shouldn’t have to look at addicts coming and going unless they volunteer at the Banquet over Christmas break.

  1. The city should buy it as an executive mansion for the mayor and any future mayor. It could have guards standing out front dressed in Nixonian “Palace Guard” garb, but wearing Chuck Taylors, however, to lighten up the experience.

  2. Per the city judicial ordinance, there’s no appeal into circuit court. In other words, you can’t sue them and THEY CANT SUE YOU. Probably the only action is for the county to auction it for taxes owed. If I were the owner, I’d show up at city hearings with a good lawyer and a big grin. The patriotic thing to do is sit on it until the city realizes their charter is unconstitutional.

  4. The McKennon Park house was demolished per a private lawsuit. The city has no authority. Think of it this way: People have a dishwasher but hand wash dishes. What’s a dishwasher for anyway? WHY DO WE NEED CITY GOVERNMENT?

  5. If you believe that house was really 80% complete I have a deal for you for some land in Florida and a bridge in Arizona. It is not the duty of the city to see if a home owner/builder has the finances to build a house. And this house was not situated on a small site where house would be 5-7 feet away from other houses. It was built on an extremely large site. As far as using as a transitional home, it would cost more to get it in shape to use than it would be worth.

  6. Though not in every neighborhood, transitional homes are located in areas other than the Whittier neighborhood. On another note in this post- the banquet serves 13 meals a week all year. Many wonderful volunteers show up every day but Sunday to help prepare, serve and pay for the meals.

  7. Since the Taupe Housing Society of Conformity scored rather high in the areas of fraud and embezzlement – from a recent release of city crime stats, that is – perhaps a halfway house for such vices would be appropriate in that part of town.

  8. That unfinished house was a mess and it is a shame that it was such a waste. Hopefully Habitat for Humanity Restore get a shot at some of the materials.

    BTW, not all transitional homes are in Whittier area, as Matt Johnson. Not always welcome. In our old neighborhood, Hayes district, near McKennan Park, we were stuck with two of them within 6 blocks of each other.
