Is this a $70 million public private partnership, Partner?
The Sculpture Walk is a great addition to downtown.
But, this arc is about the dumbest idea I’ve seen in a long time.
To steal a line from Stormy….”I thought it would be bigger”……#PettigrewWouldBeSoProud
This thing has always reminded me of the Crossed Swords sculpture under which you drove into Baghdad.
Tubular. A few people decided to ruin downtown aesthetics. You can’t plant flowers in the boulevard but the city endorses this crap. It’ll be a great place to hang 5G antennas.
We will be sued by Saddam’s family, you know.
I can’t wait until Greenpeace strings a banner across it.
Looks like the vapor trail from Evel Knievel’s ill-fated rocket jump over the Snake River Canyon.
The capture of these two half dreams into a single frame is clever, indeed.
Waste of Tax Payer dollars, if any are being used. If its completely private, mehhh I have no input.
The story is $2.6 million in private donation and the land it is sitting on is owned by Raven/Cherapa. They also have a maintanence constingency fund and insurance.
Well shit in my cereal, we don’t have to pay for something very few of us will use, say it ain’t so!!!! It’s hard to believe we didn’t contribute (sarc).
On another note, while people can do what they want with their money I never understood paying that kind of money for something that only serves as an aesthetically pleasing object. I guess this is why I was always a poor art student, my stick men I drew just never sold!!! Darn
I have argued for $2.6 million they could have done hundreds of small art beautification projects throughout the city using local artists, artisans, contractors and landscapers. One of the main arguments to building the arc was ‘We need a tourist attraction downtown’ I guess Falls Park, the unique shopping and restaurants, a duplicate of the statue of david and SculptureWalk isn’t enough, oh and an unfinished parking ramp.
Oh Scott, you just spurred an idea. We should turn that parking ramp into a tourist attraction. Lets call it the Money Pit. Local artists could come down and paint, draw, sculpt, all kinds of things BUT, they must stick with one of the following themes:
We could have contests and award prizes, food trucks could park there, bands could play, beer sold. I can think of all kinds of things we could do. Heck maybe even an “x games” style skateboarding competition or American Ninja warrior could do an episode or 2.
