I have seen this Rhino locked up in the back cage several times over the summer, today I shot a picture of it (I think it is a young female) along the bike trail. What worries me about its time outs is that is that you can tell it is emotionally distressed, it paces back and forth and scrapes it’s horn against the wall. I’m obviously not an expert on rhinos and maybe there is a reason they do this (it’s not there every time I have rode past). I also understand that I think this is an endangered species and sometimes a zoo is the only place they can be. Just curious why sad rhino get’s time outs so much. Does anyone know why they may separate it from the rest of the herd?

I think zoos are an abomination and should be banned. These are wild animals and should free to roam in their natural habitat. I also feel the same way about circuses and carnival acts. Its entertainment for us at an animals expense.
I agree. The last time I was at the Zoo, the animals looked miserable. I think though there needs to be preserves for endangered species so they can breed and multiply. I know a lot of zoos, including ours is doing that now, which is good, but I think there is a better way.
I understand it when Tea Party members shun a rhino, but when rhinos shun a rhino, then the reality has collapsed into itself. Perhaps, you have identified the ultimate Republican black hole.

WTF does this have to do with Republicans? I swear some of you have some kind of mental issue where everything that is wrong in the world we need to go after Conservatives or Republicans. This is a benign blog post on the Sioux Falls zoo and this miserable looking animal. Maybe you have some kind of attention deficit disorder where you are unable to stay on topic.

Scott – Maybe so on the joke part but, its a little annoying to constantly see this crap from commentators on here constantly blasting Republicans or Trump when they have NOTHING, in any way shape or form, to do with the topic. I would urge those who are constantly making these comments to not throw stones in a glasshouse. The Democrats are a complete dumpster fire in this state and nationwide and represent NOTHING of the party of JFK which my family for years was affiliated with but, ALL have left. I don’t sit here and blame Obama or Dems for unrelated crap. I frankly think 95+% all D’s & R’s could just disappear and we would all be better off. I like the local stuff as it focuses on the issues and facts and we can discuss real problems and not get caught up in the partisan stuff. I believe you say it frequently, it’s just common sense and I would say 70% most issues are. Nothing pisses me off more than a Rino. I on the hand love this poor Rhino stuck in this pen, horrible.

Oh, but there is very a simple answer for all of this. You see, when living in a red state, if you can still make fun of Republicans and or conservatives, then you are still free. Such exercises in free speech are merely tests to make sure we are still free, that’s all.
It’s kind of like when you tell an officer to “Xxxk-Off,” then you wait to see if he is going to arrest you for that or not…

‘Sad Rhino’ topic, enough said. There’s no place for this beast in a zoo or in the wild. When Berlin was bombed at the end of WW2, the zoo animals were left to fend for themselves after years of depending upon humans. It’s not just sad, it’s sadistic.

There is not a free speech issue nor did I say it was. Even if you can tell a cop to go #$@ himself does not stop you from being a dick. The point I am making is the constant need to blame everything in the world on Conservatives and Republicans is starting become some kind of mental disease. Its sad that we as a society politicize everything and people are reduced to R’s and D’s. I come to this blog frequently and I think many folks who are OBJECTIVE can have real discussions about issues or concerns with our community. Most are just common sense and to trot out Trump, Repulicans, Conservatives, or Christians constantly as the source of the worlds problems in their eyes on things such as an animal being penned up is f@cking stupid. I bet if I said the same kind of crap all the and blamed Obama, Pelosi, Schumer, Sanders, and the rest of the Democrat party for every problem we have I would have 10 messages firing back at me and some of you would tell me I am an idiot for even thinking these are related. Joking or not, its getting old with the blame game. Stick to the subject at hand!
If we got rid of the R’s and D’s, how would South Dakotan’s know how to vote? Oh well, everyone just run as an R and let them try to figure it out.
