Some interesting things are said in this video. Including the fact that I guess in the Midwest, elected leaders just bulldoze over the citizens when they want to get things done for big business. Mostly because we are one of the most secretive and corrupt states in the nation when it comes to governing. Don’t let Mayor Paul’s statements fool you, citizens had ZERO input when implementing 5G, and he knows it, and he loves it!

I will even admit, that I’m still on the fence if this is bad for us or good for us. My beef is how citizens were NOT consulted.

7 Thoughts on “Mayor TenHaken says the telecoms are sick of the ‘West Coast Rat Race’ when it comes to 5G

Coming to South Dakota, that’s been done before. How do you think we got Citibank? Except, Citibank never gave us cancer….. Oh, and these mega trust funds have yet to have given us cancer, too.

( – and Woodstock adds: “You know, we have been down this road before”….”Many times”…..”How do you think we got the Pathfinder Project*?”…..”And do you think the Minuteman missile program was a great catch, too?” ….”‘West Coast Rat Race’ my ass….”)

This cracks me up. I live in a major West coast city. I spent about 16 years working in tech in Sioux Falls.

The idea that IT people in West coast cities are looking to move to Sioux Falls en masse is laughable. If you’re working IT in the bay area you’re most likely pulling in 150-200k/year. Seattle isn’t quite as high, but it’s close. In Portland you’re making $80k/year+, easy.

Folks out here value the culture that’s available in these cities. Even more so, generally, folks place a high value on the proximity to wilderness and the ability to quickly be in the mountains or at the ocean. Weather is also a huge factor. The idea of living in a place that’s completely flat with crazy weather extremes will be a non-starter for most.

It also has to be said that the politics in South Dakota are a major factor that will keep folks from the West from moving there. Most conservatives here are even turned off by the extreme politics showcased in Pierre.

I think Paul is talking out of his ass.

Isn’t it obvious. Sioux Falls is the test market for 5G. Original cell phone markets were OKC and KC. Mostly because it’s flat terrain with favorable coverage. California and the NE. are where 5G is intended. There has to be a success in advance. It’s to much spectrum for here so seems appealing for there. We will have excess so works for us. However, if there’s anything adverse, we will have cooked brains and babies with birth defects. How does it feel to be test animals for a nationwide release?

  4. we now know where p10k’s priorities lie. this was so important to him, that he wore a suit and tie for the photo op.

I agree with Anonymouse. People moving here sold from the west coast to retire here. It’s cheaper. Low taxes. No wildfires. Low crime. No earthquakes. They’re bright enough to realize how corrupt government is here. They’re DEMOCRATS. Eventually, they’ll be a majority. There’s gonna be some changes made. Enough so that this could become a blue state and rejoin the union once Trump is impeached.

  7. Personally I couldn’t stand to watch that speech for more than a couple of minutes. I just wanted to puke the entire time. By the way you folks may want to show for tonight’s council meeting. Bring popcorn.
