As you have probably heard on Facebook and other blogs, former City Councilor Dr. Kermit Staggers has entered hospice care in preparation for his next journey through the universe.
Theresa Stehly offered a beautiful prayer this afternoon for Kermit at the city council informational meeting.
There is a lot I could say about my relationship with Kermit, but I only want to use one word that describes it best, HONESTY. I have always been honest with him, and he has done the same with me and hundreds if not thousands of other people in this community. It is truly a RARE attribute in a politician these days.

Always a gentleman to me even after we voted opposite of each other on major issues. I learned a lot about Kermit over the years and I know he loves his family and they love him. My prayers are with him and his family.
I first met Kermit back in 1985. I was doing some volunteer/intern work in Daschle’s office that summer and one of the fellow interns I was working with was from then Sioux Falls College. Kermit stopped by Daschle’s office one day that summer to see how his student’s internship was going. He was definitely a caring and compassionate person.
I love me some Kermit staggers I remember when I first came to siouxfalls and I addressed the council at input and said I wasnt coming back and Kermit asked the mayor at that time if he can speak to me cause he wanted me to come back. We have talked on the phone a few times and I told him I would continue to come back to city council public input . Hes a very passionate man with integrity not your typical politician very smart and hes different personality makes him unique.

He always listens but presents a soft revision. He has a method for refining opinions that often leads to profound action.
Kermit Staggers followed his life path with integrity and honesty as his model. . He opposed corruption, unjust taxation and proposed positive common sense solutions to many of the challenges affecting the city of Sioux Falls and state of South Dakota. Kermit represented the average person at both the city and state level and he did it very very well. It simply does not get any better than that.
