  1. Now with this $70 an hour thing, how much does the city plan to charge – let’s say – in the future for a suspected burglary, attempted robbery, or even a minor fender bender? Will a victim, who has been injured, have to decide if they can afford a police inquiry before they call 911? Just as many, who are sick, wonder if they can afford to go to the doctor or a hospital. Imagine what a murder investigation might cost a family someday with such a concept.

Now, if you think all of this is ridiculous, then remember that this overall concept comes from the same political crowd that wants to destroy our current busing service in this town by making it more confusing and more costly for its rider patrons, who will also need to be able to afford a cell phone plan in the future as well.

Not only is government increasingly not for the people, it is now also beginning to be a governmental reality in general, which you will need to be able to afford. Our taxing system is becoming inverted, where only those who can afford taxes will be governed or cared for. It is becoming a moated governmental reality. Government is no longer – apparently – “to serve, protect, and defend the public,” rather, its just a gun for hire, or a bus for some, but not necessarily for Gus.

This $70 an hour proposal and on-demand busing, as well as the recent indifferent and confusing storm recovery plan, speak volumes of how a city that is quick to hand over a TIF, or say, “Yes,” to a Bunker Ramp, is increasingly slow or lacking in its willingness to represent all of the people….. Well, I take some of that back, unless a course a quickly posted social media piece somehow makes you more happy, content, and fulfilled.

  2. The Stehly Report has become a reliable and practical source for what’s going on at city hall. There’s the city web side but it’s mostly one sided propaganda. There’s the news media but Wall Street parents don’t pay for in depth reporters. Their story is but a small summary from other sources including unsubstantiated AM talk and blogs.
The best answer for security cost is mandate independent separate police officer contractors according to anticipated crowd size. Double time for the average Officer is likely less than $40/hour. The city wants its $30 markup but why? This is what other cities do. It works well. This way police get needed part time income privately and directly.
