Sioux Falls City Councilor Stehly featured on Inside Town Hall

Theresa was the guest this past Friday (the video isn’t up yet – my assumption is they didn’t want the 5G presser to get overshadowed). The Director of the Dudley house, Madeline Shields is also still hosting the show. Apparently running a homeless shelter isn’t that hard, so she has time to play TV anchor.

I asked Stehly what was discussed;

• Parking ramp

• Communication challenges within the mayor’s office (I have a feeling this is referring to Mutt & Jeff, his two COS employees)

• Fixing project trim

• Upcoming city election in 2020

• How to get citizens more involved and informed

• Adding more municipal government education into our public schools*

• How the mayor has utilized Stehly’s inmate initiative ideas but needs to go a step further and reinstate the scoop it program and eliminate project trim (use inmate labor instead)

• Bee ordinance

• Concerns with changing the meeting times

*I found that topic pretty humorous, considering the SFSD and School Board are extremely secretive and make most decisions behind closed doors.

Egyptian Trade Delegation Schedule of Events

Democratic State Lawmaker, Saba, has organized a trade delegation;

“There is a lack of access for South Dakota agricultural products and services in international markets” observed SD State Representative Michael Saba (Dist. 9) after recently returning from a trip abroad.  Saba decided to do something about it.

This Sunday, November 3, a delegation of Egyptian officials will be in South Dakota for four days attempting to buy 10,000 metric tons of soybeans and other products.

“This trip shows South Dakota can compete in the world markets but we need a better marketing infrastructure to make this an everyday occurrence” Saba added.

Egyptian Ambassador Hamdi Saleh and his distinguished delegation will be touring Eastern South Dakota including the cities of Sioux Falls on Monday, Brookings on Tuesday with Watertown and  Aberdeen on Wednesday.

“The delegation is visiting South Dakota in an attempt to open our state’s high tech and agriculture industries to the marketplaces of Egypt and we are inviting the people of our state including the media to join us in welcoming our distinguished guests” said Saba.

What do you think of Politicians who say they are ‘Positive’

My first interpretation is usually they are trying to paint their opponent(s) as being negative. Jensen has the following ad up on the internet;

I often tell people I try to steer away from labeling individual candidates as positive or negative. There are going to be tough decisions that are made, sometimes those decisions and that process can become pretty negative, but it has to be done. I judge a politician on whether they are truthful and transparent. I believe open government and decisions made in the public are very ‘positive’ even if it doesn’t appear that way, and having closed door meetings and coming out later and saying everything his peachy keen is kind of negative because they are probably hiding something from the public.

Has councilor Stehly ruffled feathers? (who BTW hasn’t announced yet) Sure, but she was instrumental in getting the administration moving on things, even if she hasn’t passed any legislation. Sometimes that very public pressure that may look messy, can have positive results.

As for the word ‘Proven’ I think that is even more overused then ‘Positive’. Jensen’s short stint in the legislature produced few results except voting down the party line. All that proves is that he is a rubber stamper, and we don’t need any more of those on the council.

I’ll say it again, I have nothing personal against Alex, but unless he starts to come out with some policy ideas for the city, he could spend a MILLION dollars and still not beat Stehly.

I was finally able to get a copy of the presentation from Monday’s meeting. It wasn’t emailed until Thursday. It is STILL not available online. The city attorney’s office and the clerk’s office needs to have a serious conversation with ALL department heads about the open meetings laws. Two of the attendees (city managers) should have known better since they have both worked for the city for over a decade.

Will Marion Mike Rounds run for another term? DaCola says NO.

There is a story in the Argus today (I can’t read it because it is for subscribers) but the headline suggests that Rounds may not run for re-election due to his wife’s illness.

I have felt for awhile that he would NOT run anyway, even before his wife was diagnosed. I have heard from several Republican insiders that he doesn’t like Washington so much, and secondly, six years is a long term.

I have been suggesting for awhile that he will choose NOT to run and Dusty Johnson will run for the seat. This is the gossip going around, and one of the reasons he is so upset with Borglum.

As for money raised, both Rounds and Johnson can easily move those funds.

So who would run for Congress on the Republican side? I think it is Paul TenHaken, who I don’t think has the appetite for another term as Mayor.

I think this will open it up for a special election (if TenHaken wins) for Sioux Falls Mayor, which we will see Huether return, but I could also see other opportunists like Greg Neitzert looking at running.

This of course is all speculation, and just some early predictions.

In the Trumpist sphere, I agree with a letter writer Cory Heidelberg scrounged up. I have been thinking for awhile that the reason Romney is supporting impeachment is so he can be the GOP’s presidential candidate in 2020. Think about it, he has ran before, he has name recognition, and he is a moderate (more like a corporatist). He will still lose, once a loser always a loser. I’m still on the fence whether or not the Senate will kick the bum out of office, but that political circus changes by the day. If the polling is 55% or higher with American support for resignation, the Senate will remove him. Guaranteed. And our Nightmare maybe finally over with . . . for awhile anyway.
