Is NEW Events Center bag policy about SAFETY or SALES?

A new bag policy goes into affect tonight. While I can’t understand why anyone would want to carry in a bag or purse to a show anyway, I do understand that women like to have makeup and other personal items with them, but I wonder if the policy isn’t about safety (concealed weapons) but about people sneaking in their own beverages and snacks. The last time I paid to go to a show at the EC my ticket was $120 (very good seats) and drinks were about $50. Remember, well over 90% of what you spend at the EC (tickets, food, beverages, etc.) goes straight out of town and doesn’t get circulated in the local economy. I have asked since the place has opened what their yearly sales are and how much of that money stays in Sioux Falls and have yet to get an answer from the city who owns the facility and pays the mortgage and maintenance.

Councilor Neitzert makes some interesting statements

Oh, the irony of former chief bullsh*tter having a press conference about his 123 page book (that I presume has been extremely edited, or should we say ‘polished’) the same day Councilor ‘Mama’s Boy’ Neitzert makes his re-election bid;

“We need an honest, informed and principled leadership more than ever to address the many challenges and opportunities as our city continues to grow. I believe I have proven to be that type of leader.”

I’ll let the honesty and principled statements slide for now, we will have plenty of time to talk about those, but I hate to remind Greg that if he were truly ‘informed’ he would have NEVER fought for the Bunker Ramp, in fact, any city official (elected or not) that helped to push that thru was anything but ‘informed’ and maybe just a little bit ‘dishonest’. And let’s continue with that theme;

‘update annexation policies to foster more neighborhood cooperation’

The annexation task force did a quick 180 after Theresa Stehly used her own resources and time to notify NON-RESIDENTS of the potential annexation efforts by the city of Sioux Falls. She certainly did not have to do that, but because of her efforts the task force members, including Neitzert and Kiley found out what a pitchfork up their rears feels like.

And speaking of Theresa, she still hasn’t decided if she will run or not. But the rumor around the South of 57th street water cooler is that councilor Erickson and Mayor Paul are helping her potential opponent, Alex Jensen, with fundraising and organization. I also heard Neitzert’s potential opponent is getting a little assistance from a former mayoral candidate, no worries, it’s NOT the zombie guy.

Man yells racial slurs at teens and tells them he has a firearm in the heart of downtown Sioux Falls

I will warn you, the video is NOT work safe or kid safe. I saw this earlier today and was glad to see KSFY had time in between petting pigs and eating chislic stories to do a story on this. It is a very sad day in our community when three minorities get treated this way, especially since they never even provoked the guy. What is even sadder is they haven’t even arrested the man. While the slurs are protected by the 1st Amendment, threatening people with a firearm is NOT. We have a long way to go folks, and our current situation in DC is NOT helping.

UPDATE: Former Sioux Falls Mayor to hold press conference tomorrow

UPDATE: I think his announcement tomorrow is probably a book release. His personal website has been down tonight and changed to serveleadwin.com (and I assume will relaunch tomorrow at the press conference.)

It should be no secret Mr. Transparency himself is being ‘tight-lipped’ about this announcement. My guess is that he will be either announcing the release of his book or that he is running for Congress or Senate as an independent.

What I would really like for him to do is to apologize for the EC siding mess and bunker ramp fiasco, and then tell us he is leaving the state, or better yet the country.
