Sioux Falls is NOT the only city having elections on April 14th, many cities across the state are having municipal elections, including Crooks, Brookings and Yankton, and several others.

Governor Noem has mentioned she is looking into her options. I guess according to state law, that date cannot change. What I don’t know is if she has the executive authority thru the SOS’s office to move that date up. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Noem said at a news conference Friday at the Capitol that one of her lawyers had met with the South Dakota Secretary of State staff about how the spring elections might be affected.

I have told candidates at this point I think a ‘wait and see’ approach may be better. For instance if the virus curve is going down by April 6th, there may be no reason to postpone, if it is spiking like crazy, Noem may have to take action.

Personally I would hate to see it postponed. I know that the candidates, all 4 of them in the race in Sioux Falls, have been working hard on getting out the vote.

I encourage people, if you are healthy, to absentee vote at the courthouse after March 30. I know the county courthouse in Minnehaha is looking into providing hand sanitizer stations in the lobby, which is good.

On a similar note, the city of Dell Rapids put out this advice on FB;

SANITARY SEWER NOTICE:
Due to the coronavirus concerns, there has been a shortage of toilet paper on store shelves. This may cause users to look for alternative products such as paper towels, facial tissues, baby wipes, flushable wipes, and other similar items. These products do not break down like toilet paper and can cause sanitary sewer overflows, which in turn can cause additional public health hazards. PLEASE DON’T FLUSH ITEMS OTHER THAN TOILET PAPER DOWN YOUR TOILET.

As for cleaning up campaign rhetoric in this election cycle, I suggest using a shovel.

  1. I always knew that when Trump went it wouldn’t be pretty, and that it was just a question of when and how many he was going to take with him. Well, here we go. It’s too late to unbuckle yourself from this roll-coaster… #FlattenTheCurve(s)

  2. Masks and Kleenex are for Corona virus. Sup with toilet paper? If there’s a shortage of butt wipe, the city should distribute the charter, codes, and Roberts Rules. They’re not using them.

  3. TP seems to be what everyone is talking about.

    Dell Rapids (3,652+) PROACTIVELY warns their residents about potential sewer back-ups, BUT NOT A WORD out of SF Mayor and Director of Public Works (194,000+).

    People, use common sense, if you plug up your sewer, you not only cause problems for your property, but also for your neighbors!!
