It’s been a few weeks since I have done this because the meeting schedules have been all over the map. Just a reminder also that the 2nd reading of the Covid ordinance to allow bars and restaurants to reopen is on Thursday, May 7 (10:30 AM). If passed, it won’t go into effect until Friday, May 8. Several bars and restaurants seemed to have opened over the weekend. Not sure if they understand that the ordinance has not passed yet. I wonder if there will be any enforcement this week?

Informational Meeting • Wed May 6 • 4 PM

SPECIAL NOTE: Funny how Mayor TenHaken is calling it a ‘Work Station’ instead of a ‘Precinct’. Gee, would it have anything to do with him attacking Jolene’s plan during the mayoral campaign of creating police precincts? What a tool . . .

• New Governmental Lease Standards and Southwest Police Report to Work Station presentation

Regular City Council Meeting • Wed May 6 • 7 PM

SPECIAL NOTE: Notice that the State Theatre will be asking for a wine license. I hope the owner of West Mall shows up and tells them about their hypocrisy if they pass this. I’m sure it has the 4-5 votes to pass. But I do suspect a couple of councilors to vote against it. I’m sure we will hear about all the extra steps they will be taking to ensure minors are not drinking, you know, just like the owner of West Mall promised.

SPECIAL NOTE II: I heard that Councilor Erickson is planning on running for mayor. This probably confirms the rumor that TenHaken will run in a primary against Noem for Governor in 2022. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around these rumors, because I have seen these two clowns do some weird crap over the past couple of years, but it would not surprise me. I think a race between Erickson and Huether would be fun to watch. Get out the popcorn.

Item #6, Approval of Contracts, Sub Item #15, Meals for Isolation Sites. Shouldn’t this be an expense of the County, the State or the Feds?

Sub Item #19, over $100K to fix the retention pond at the Denty. I wonder if they are fishing out bad siding? This place is the biggest money pit this city will ever see.

Item #18, Wine license for State Theatre.

Planning Commission Meeting • Thursday May 7 • 6 PM

Item 5B, Woody’s Bar is planning an expansion.

  1. This weeks meeting is special. It’s Cinco de Mayo, Taco Tuesday, and there’s a virus named after a Mexican beer.

  2. No need for a Fiscal Committee Meeting, I see. Best wait for the federal bailout, huh?

  3. It’s time to contemplate budget shortfall. Sales tax revenue could be half. Malls, restaurants, the EC, and theaters are closed. There’s no spending because people are staying home worried about losing their jobs. The council acts as if this is yet a robust economy. They’re the cowboy band at Wall Drug. Put in a quarter and they’ll play the same song with worn out instruments.

We’re in trouble if either Huether or Erickson are elected mayor. One is ‘Listen or Else’, the other spreads COVID with AirBNB.

  4. Will the Events Center and Aquatics Center ever be used again? Even the Administration Center is closed. Huether is like the Mayan Civilization. Where did he go? On the road? #BoomTownMyAss

  5. When the sky is falling, have a Hispanic council meeting party. The R5 can swing a stick at a donkey piñata. The D3 can sing mariachi. The mayor can make a list for Santa (Santa Ana). Remember the Denty (aka Alamo). When the party slows, Huether will ride in on his Subaru with Coca Cola Cowboy garb and dance salsa with Erickson.

  6. No Business has been mandate to close, The restaurants, bars, taverns, car lots, repair facilities, massage parlors, all have been open for business. They are simply allowing us to do business with less stringent regulations, such as allowing us to entertain up to 50% of our Capacity. Bars and some restauratns have already been allowing dine ins for quite a few weeks…

You failed to mention the “resolution” placed on the agenda yesterday that gives the Mayor the authority to shutdown half of our Transit Services, roughly 5 bus routes will be shut down until May 30th if it passes.

And finally, I am wondering about why the Sioux Steel situation is so quiet…hmm… LAND PATENT ISSUES ?

  7. I think it would help the bus drivers if passengers would use only the rear doors. Making the buses fare-free during the pandemic would make this possible. Service could be preserved to all the parts of town where it is now, and, with so few riders allowed per bus, the system isn’t getting much fare revenue anyway. Let’s face it, there are people who depend on the bus to get to work or other essential places.
