It was another lively night at the city council meeting. During public input, once again the Municipal Band was brought up to be saved, and once again you could hear the mayor audibly sighing into his microphone. Hey you brought this on yourself. Probably one of the stupidest things I have ever seen a mayor do.

Bob Kolbe (I think it was him, hard to tell with a mask on). Ripped into the council a bit about ethics and drop boxes for voting. Another citizen also piped up about ballot drop boxes, I think her best line was, “In case you haven’t noticed we are the middle of a Covid Pandemic.” AND “If you are telling us it is unsafe to vote in person, unsafe to vote by mail, and unsafe to vote by drop boxes, it is pretty evident you are trying to suppress our votes .” (paraphrasing).

Sierra also appeared to remind the council that legitimate and legal massage therapists are sick of the prostitution and men harassing them because of the illegitimate therapists. I’ll tell you why it is taking so long for these places to be shut down, because a lot of elite individuals in town frequent these places, and we certainly can’t have their extracurricular activities shut down. I also don’t think Mayor Stoneless understands the gravity of the situation, neither does our Chief of Police who last night was more concerned about building his $52 million dollar training center (which we will bond for instead trying to acquire some Federal Dollars – now that’s leadership folks).

It also appears another apartment building will be pushed through though the neighbors (homeowners) don’t want it since it was originally zoned as office. Of course the accolades for how great developers are were ensued by the RS6.

Greg Nutzert’s ethics challenge was also read into the record, and now the city has to spend another $5,000 for legal representation on the matter and had to hire a law firm. Greg, you can stop this circus before it turns into a 3 ring extravaganza, admit guilt and apologize so we can all move on. I might even buy you a jug of hand sanitizer . . . nevermind . . . you should probably pay for that yourself 😊

    You want a band? Do as the taupe do. Stay home and sit in an oversized brown leather comfy chair in an oversized family room in an oversized home and watch ‘Seventy-six Trombones’ on your 72 incher. Don’t worry if something else isn’t as big. They’ll never know as long as you can keep up the illusion. That’s what people do now, don’t you know? Get with it. And where’s your white or black SUV, too? #Sneakers&Whiskers #ChickfilAIsComing

    They wanted super precincts because they said they’re convenient. But what happen to the love for convenience? Drop boxes even have no lines, long or short, and would be placed in fifteen convenient places, too. #DamnRepublicans #HypocrisyInADemocracy

    It’s to bad the city band can’t be funded but it’s a luxury we can’t afford given low city revenue. Also, audience size is COVID restricted so no band for a few years.
    Elections have always been rigged. Why stop now.
    I haven’t noticed the massage parlors. This sort of thing is hard to stop. For now, police should focus on robberies and home invasions. Massage parlors later in one big swoop.
    Neitzert is getting a lot of exposure. He could become mayor because of his Trumpian faults.
    It’s not chicken wings. It’s chicken tenders.

  7. calling boneless wings chicken nuggets is like calling a backpack a book bag. it’s the same thing, but try telling that to your kid.

    When I heard about the mayor proposing to get rid of the municipal band I told a musician friend who still lives in Sioux Falls that this would be the single greatest thing to ever happen to the band. And it sure seems to be playing out that way.

    The band has gotten a ton of sympathetic media and all kinds of positive attention from people who heretofore barely noticed the band was even a thing. The Mayor is getting raked at one council meeting after the next by some of the nicest people on earth, just mauled with kindness. The council members get to witness it.

    And on another level, just the idiocy of picking a battle with Chris Hill? Chris is like *the* nicest guy in town and knows every well-heeled mover and shaker by virtue of all the years he’s spent with the orchestra. You and I both know that’s not an enormous circle. Those people *adore* Chris.

    That the mayor doesn’t have anyone in his inner circle who could’ve told him this ahead of time? Is this one of those Gatsby-esque West Egg/East Egg things? That TenHaken is new money and just doesn’t understand how the old guard around town plays the game?

    In the end, the band will get their money put back and nobody is ever going to dare dream of going near that line item in the budget ever again. TenHaken just secured the band their second 100 years of funding. Nailed it!

  9. You know what I call boneless wings? Beaks and Buttholes. Enjoy.

    Nobody seems to agree about the band. We hardly knew they existed and certainly never attended concerts. Suddenly they’re important. Drop this plucking subject and cluck about chicken wings. Let’s talk about gizzards, thighs, and breasts. It’ll take our mind off COVID for a few minutes.

    While everyone is discussing ethics, think of this little make up of the city council …

    Current Council Make UP —

    MAYOR -> Business Owner
    At-Large District 1 -> Real Estate Property Owner
    At-Large District 2 -> Lawyer
    At-Large District 3 -> Banker
    District Chair -> Computer Programer
    District Chair -> Liberal Arts Teacher
    District Chair -> Business Owner
    District Chair -> Community Advocate

    Developers control this city, and they form a faction with the Bankers, whom get their money foreign lobbies, whom now utilize the lawyers to protect that interest, as I look at our council leadership at the top – the At-Large District Chairs, I now see a direct representation of that elite class.

    When I look at the Property Tax dollars, and knowing where they come from, and what the intent of the ‘tax’ was designed for, and now where 30% of the dollars go, they are going right into the pockets of the “DEVELOPERS” whom have controlled City “policy” going all the way back to the 1862 Dakota Land Company and Western Town Companies land claims which established this town. Who needs the people when you have these classy elitists who make all the decisions?

    Now, on the ‘agenda’ for 9/8/2020 – the CITY wants to increase our taking of property tax dollars to $70,000,000 for 2021.

    Currently, 65% of property taxes go to K-12 Education of which was the original intent of why most people surrendered their land claims for in the first place. To temporarily give to the State to levy a tax on the land inside its borders to provide education for our Children.

    It has since been manipulated by a faction of bankers, developers, and lawyers whom wish to take more money from the people for land, community, and economic development.

    Then they passed laws such as the T.I.F subsidies to reward “themselves” to recover the costs of those developments taking from the tax payers even more. For in order to pay for that Subsidies – we then raise the Property Tax Rates or unfairly over-assess land values which is another way to take from the tax payers for personal gain, or we simply pull a greater % from the property tax revenues which then take away from K-12 Education.

    When does it end?

    This CITY generates $300-400 million in actual taxes (excises, duties, imposts), Then another $200 million form federal and state loans, grants, subsidies, budget cuts due to over-evaluation of tax dollars, interest, stocks, bonds, municipal bonds, refinancing of those bonds, etc.

    While we cut out the $120,000 for the “band” citing revenue issues, ‘we’ now go out and spend another $50 million from 2019.
