Just curious, does anyone know who is starting a rental business for foot motorized scooters in Sioux Falls? Councilors Jensen and Erickson are bringing an ordinance change Tuesday night to license them. I am assuming they wouldn’t be doing this unless someone asked them to. Would have been really nice to get an informational to the public about it. When I was in California a few weeks ago they are everywhere.

Item #64 on the Regular Agenda.

Isn’t ironic that the city council has time to create ordinances for friend’s businesses that don’t even exist yet, but sit on their hands over a law that passed with around 70% of the vote. What a bunch of losers.

This is to update the ordinances to state statutes which recently passed laws to regulate them. It is one of the so called “clean up language”.

I’ve seen many electric powered bicycles on the trails. The latest ones can do 38 mph. The way to get around city intervention is to pedal when you see a cop but power otherwise. A powered scooter seems minor in comparison. It’s like smoking areas and masks. The council will stall but eventually pass some sort of unenforceable ordinance once there’s a standard everywhere else. For now, I think it’s smoke but don’t inhale for pot. I suggest bring back edibles from Colorado in unlabeled sandwich bags. By the time it’s tested for THC, it’ll be 2030 and beyond limitation time for prosecution.

Silly city council. We don’t have a comedy club here but you’ll do until we get one.

Zits, that makes sense. I’m sure some national company hired some lobbyist to get it in the books. But I still find it ironic they waste no time updating state statutes but when the people pass a law for med Mary they just sit in there hands.

This proposed ordinance is about placing restrction upon use of motorized foot scooters.
Already in the ordinance is that operation will be permitted only in specific areas of the City (“The area shall be within main street business improvement district as defined in § 37.106, and indicated by geofence.).

Provided in this proposed ordinance – The City shall define the operation of motorized foot scooters on the recreational trail. But those boundaries are not defined in this reading of the ordinance.

Bold prediction: operation of motorized foot scooters will be restricted to those portions of the recreational trail located between Falls Park south to E. 12th St. Wouldn’t want to facilitate use of these devices by somebody travelling from their camp to get groceries at Sunshine Foods, would we.

“There’s still a Sunshine Foods?”….. “What about Ken Hirsch and ‘Fun at the Races’?”…… “Tuesday nights at 6:30pm on KSOO”…..

On behalf of the Taupeville Dining and Entertainment District (formerly known as The Meat District*), I would propose that this ordinance be amended to designate the geofences for permitted operation of motorized foot scooters be placed at the boundaries of the Taupeville Dining and Entertainment District, to include as well those portions of the recreational trail directly adjacent to the Farm Field Park, Yankton Trail Park, Tomar Park, Spencer Park and Tuthill Park.

To those who have requested that Councilors Erickson and Jensen draft this ordinance with exclusive definition to DTSF, what are you willing to pay for the exclusivity defined in the Erickson/Jensen ordinance (other than the amounts which you have already contributed to campaign coffers)?
Motorized foot scooters seem more representative of the Taupeville lifestyle anyway.

    * Remember when all the meat businesses (Uncle Ed’s, Cleaver’s, Look’s) were located south of 57th St?
