When I have helped with city council campaigns in the past, the first thing I remind people of is to ‘take care of the little things’ before announcing. Seems Mr. Barranco failed to tidy up a delinquent property tax bill before announcing running for city council;

Of course, this is no Federal Crime, he will likely have to pay a late payment fine and it will be all good. But I often tell people that if someone running for office can’t even manage the simple things in their personal lives, how can we expect them to serve us? Like I said, I could give 2 rips if he is late on his taxes, but this personal failure on his part certainly shows how much he will pay attention on the city council when managing OUR business, like when the city council hired a city clerk to run our elections that wasn’t even registered to vote. Just another rubber stamping, cruise control, seat warmer and little else.

  1. I live in a modest home, pay my taxes on time, and know how much I owe. Based on what Barranco owes, his home is worth more than a million dollars. You would think with a house like that, that you could afford to pay your property taxes on time.

    ( and Woodstock adds: “Maybe a $7000 bill isn’t a big deal to him and it’s like when most of us forget to pay the paperboy on time”…. )

  2. It’s not uncommon, I know a lot of people that pay late and pay the fine/fee. No big deal. What is weird is that he announced he is running for city council while having an outstanding tax bill. Obviously his campaign manager (his wife) should have paid that bill before announcing. When I have helped people run for local office, the first question I ask them is if there is any skeletons in the closet that they need to lay on the table. Most of them tell me things about family members, speeding tickets, etc. and then we move on. It seems we have this mentality in town of electing people who look good on paper without really digging into their background. We elected the previous mayor who marketed the worst CC in the nation, we elected this mayor who would DOX people and hide public officials blog servers. People need to start doing their research and elect people with integrity, real integrity.

  3. Now I see what is wrong with the city council….holy shit, YOU are helping folks run?!?!?! What do you do for them? Get on a funny painted single speed bike, plaid button down shirt, goofy shorts, one of those propeller hats, little pennants taped to the sissy bar, riding up and down Phillips yelling “No more TIF’s”?
