All candidates have until 5 PM Friday to turn in petitions to get on the ballot. I’m hearing a lot of chatter that Friday will have some big and new announcements.

This is where we are at;

• Mayor; 3 candidates announced (I have not heard of any more, which disappoints me, but we may never now).

• At-Large A; 3 candidates announced, ALL WOMEN! (I also have not heard of any more in this race).

• At-Large B; 3 candidates announced (While I have not heard of any more, I wouldn’t be surprised if another candidate(s) jumps in).

• SE District; 1 Candidate announced (I have heard there may be up to 3 more announcing by Friday).

• Central District; 2 Candidates announced (I have heard this may be a crowded race with a possibility of 2-3 more candidates jumping in on Friday).

With some of the names being thrown around, I am excited that ALL races will be well balanced. So far we have a color blind graphic designer, a medical lab manager, 2 doctors, 3 lawyers, a pastor, a used car salesman, an insurance salesman (retired fire fighter) and many more professions.

There will likely be at least 1-3 runoffs in this election with city council seats. Unfortunately I don’t think there will be a runoff in the mayoral race. Winning candidates MUST receive at least 51% of the vote in the general election to avoid a runoff.

I will announce my early predictions and candidate profiles probably this weekend once I know who is running and more importantly who they are. Of the ones that have NOT announced, if they do, we will have one of the most diverse city election candidate pools of all time when it comes to ethnicity, gender and profession.

I am pretty excited . . . this time around we must stop big money in its tracks and hopefully create a more balanced council and since we won’t have silly primary voters mucking up the voting rolls we may get a very fair and balanced city election.

  1. Looking forward to your article and new candidates being announced. Hopefully, it will be a fair election and the rubber stamp cronies will be neutralized.

  2. As long as we try hard to keep this non-partisan and on city issues, the right candidates will be elected. Make no mistake, I am a proud cynic, and if I catch anyone in the MSM in SF trying to pucker up to the money elite, I will call them out and they will get my nasty emails.

  3. I can’t vote. I now live outside the city. No matter, the vote will be manipulated. Redistricting and poll places haven’t moved. Maybe take some votes home or something new. I’ll always remember the election where I was told by a worker I couldn’t vote because I’m an Independent. I insisted on a ballot but not sure it got counted.

  4. I’d be interested to know which election Daily Spin was initially denied a ballot, as his experience doesn’t surprise me. I served many times as a Polling Place Supervisor, & election day can be a trying experience. It’s regrettable that available poll workers are mostly retired if not elderly volunteers, many eager for social activities to break up otherwise uninteresting lives. They often want to work in the precincts they live in, so they can chat up friends & acquaintances – distractions which lead to clerical errors. I had voters complain to me AND the County Clerk’s office that the Ladies Aid Meeting-like chatter among poll workers was so loud as to interfere with their confidential voting process -in spite of my repeated diplomatic requests to keep their voices down. IMO, the training given poll workers needs to be tightened WAY up; attendees instructed to STFU/watch/listen carefully, pose questions to the instructor NOT your otherwise attentive classmate, strong admonitions about proper polling place decorum, AND numerous “everyone repeat after me” mantras about voting fundamentals re: IDs, who can vote, provisional balloting, etc.
