While it is no surprise this is advancing, there were quite a few surprises last night. I was encouraged by the council’s discussion and the public input. By the look on the mayor’s face last night you could tell he was very uncomfortable discussing this because it is pretty obvious to everyone what this is, a pre-election bribe to city employees negotiated in total darkness.
I don’t disagree with the bonus, I disagree with the process.
It’s amazing what this multitasking, micromanaging mayor can get accomplished. I’ll bet if you asked him, he’d tell you that he could run the city by himself. I’ll venture to say that his bobblehead puppets will pass the second reading with minimal discussion saying it’s for the good of the city. With all the city control that he thinks he has, it’s too bad this Mayor can’t get Chick-fil-A to open their dining room. It’s getting old seeing the long lines in the drive-thru when driving on 41st St. Just think of all the fuel that could be saved from hundreds of cars not idling every day while waiting. A thank you as well to Councilor Brekke for your stand on this issue.
City employees just got one of the biggest pay packages in city history. This baffles me when property taxes grow by leaps and bounds and our heating bills are twice what they were a year ago. Its the same way on the State level as legislators cannot decide to do with all this extra money. How about some tax relief! Every time you jack our rates up (temporarily) they never come back down.
The Chic-fil-A dining room is now open. I’ve ate there. They have nice plastic flowers in vases at every table. Very touching. It’s like when my great-grandma used to cook waffle fries and jalapeño poppers.
“‘bobblehead puppets’?”…. “Say, speaking of that, does anyone have an extra one of Neitzert to sell me?”…. “I need it to complete my city council collection”….. (“Who knew they even made one of Janoct?”…)
My property taxes actually went down this year.
Are we finally benefiting from our growth? #ItsAboutTime!
