I got a call late last night from a friend who was chided into going to a country western concert fundraiser for veteran suicide prevention at the Alliance.
He said while it was a good cause and all, he got a good laugh at Poops’ speech (while wearing a cowboy hat) talking about how Sioux Falls is a drinker town and in some weird way should be celebrated, talking about how the Events Center broke a record for most beer sold at a country concert.
While there is a lot of truth to that, not sure what that has to do with suicide prevention. But hey, this is the same guy who didn’t sign up for Covid and said this is a nice town to be homeless in, you know, because of all our fine drinking opportunities.
I am not surprised that a beer drinking record was broken at a local country western concert at the Events Center. If I had to go to one of those country hoedowns, I would need to drink again and a lot of beer it would be…. I also once survived, many years ago, a tractor pull contest thanks to alcohol.
Did he borrow that hat from Huether? I remember the time Huether went Billie Sutton on us. But I think the current mayor overplayed it. A trucker hat would have been more realistic and acceptable, especially if it was one of those made with camouflage looking fabric and with a 82nd Airborne insignia on it. Plus, “Eastern Politicians” shouldn’t wear cowboy hats until West of the James River, either. The James River is the new Missouri River, you know.
Veterans, suicide, and alcohol, ya, he shouldn’t have gone there as well. What was he thinking?
Did he have luggage tan cowboy boots on, too, with white soles? Those are difficult to wear, especially in a cattle yard. I think Durango makes them.
AND I think the Mayor has further proved to us that all of this is just a game for him… But then again, he is a part of a generation that sees everything as a brand, but what he and others don’t understand is that brands used to formulate out of quality and performance and not just by pure gimmickry.
“Say, I don’t mind a cowboy hat and a good concert”…. “Is that what’s being discussed here?”…. “Plus, who needs beer with a concert like this?”….:

The city and city attorney especially have to much involvement with veterans organizations. The Alliance combines all veteran group activity. It would seem the Alliance has become a PAC more than representing veterans. This event was to be the first live entertainment since the old Am Legion closed. It became another free opportunity for the re-election campaign. The city made a big deal of giving flood plain land for a veterans cemetery. As a veteran, I’ll be buried at Sturgis. Unconstitutional city government doesn’t represent democracy.
Was there ever a mayor who served in the military or are they all Coca Cola Veterans? Are TenHaken and Huether the only Coca Cola Cowboys?
They’re definitely veterans of the Cola Wars. But which one is Max Headroom?

Imagine how big of a toolbox you could hide in a ten-gallon hat. It might hurt your brain a little bit, but over time they would become one, and where the toolbox begins to tell the brain what to do, which pretty much explains our current situation.
Another Sioux Falls Mayor, All Hat and No Cattle.
In before “Woodstock” with this musing –
Is this a promo for another chicken restaurant in town?
I thought Cowboy Chicken closed!?!?
I went to Cowboy Chicken once. They cooked my chicken with wood. They got it all wrong. They should have called it Cowgirl Chicken with a Hooters theme.
I did hear, however, that Cowboy Nuggets was coming to town. Maybe that’s what the Mayor is promoting here… But aren’t nuggets usually rather small, but the hats are always big like some pick-up trucks?
Hurry! Before it’s Election Day! Somebody find Thunehaken a tank to ride in Dukakis fashion!
( and Woodstock adds: “Would an abandoned Russian one do?”…. “I think I know where I can find one of those”…. )
