As I understand the story, one witness told me there was actually around 17 vehicles at the scene, I count 13 in this video I screenshot.

Initially what happened was a man tried to buy alcohol at the gas station and was refused because the clerk could tell he was intoxicated and when they saw him return to the vehicle they called 911. Apparently initially only one officer showed up to figure out what was going on and got into a tussle with the individual after a taser failed.

My question is why weren’t two officers called to the scene to begin with? And after the incident is over why so much presence?

Not too long ago I saw 4 officers watching over an abortion protest at the Federal Courthouse of about a dozen people.

Whenever I hear people tell me that we are short officers in Sioux Falls, all I have to do is look at these pictures and ask ‘Really?’

  1. I know I hate it when my taser fails. The last time it did, I had to abort my plans. Did they have to abort the rally to go to the gas station? With so many squad cars it must not have been a Mannequin Monday. I used to like the Ford Explorer, too, but it has become the Crown Victoria of our time. I also remember when Rapid had Saab squad cars. Their sirens reminded you of Paris in the Spring, well, actually any season would do. More cops? Well, Snoop came to town and I didn’t see any, so maybe the answer is yes, but what do I know? Because I can’t tell the difference between a Snoop concert and a haboob (Or, was that a derecho?).

  2. What? Cops would rather watch some feminists in front of a courthouse, then pole dancers at a Snoop concert? If you ask me, that tells us something about our fine men and women in blue, and that is that they must either be politically correct, or else they know which women to fear and watch.

  3. Meantime, still no arrests in the shootings outside Giliberto’s. And the Tuthill Ghost remains at large.

  4. Do you need a taser for an unarmed drunk? It seems one and another unit closest should be called. If all are at the police station, then all are closest and who’s patrolling the city? The dispatcher should be reprimanded. The radio must have been busy. Ham radio guys would think there was an alien invasion.

  5. How many cops does it take to screw in a light bulb? A dealer lot for new Ford Explorers yet still no body cameras!

  6. Wasn’t it Henry Ford, who said, you can get the Model T in any color as long as it’s black? Well, there you go. Plus, cops deserve more credit for saying Ford over the years. It’s just like South Dakota saving Citibank…. (Or, our fine city saving Lamont…. 😉 )

  7. Meanwhile street racing is on the rise and a car load of teens just killed another motorists.

It’s like everywhere else. Shitty employees to very little unless it’s something their interested in.

  8. veteran’s parkway is a racetrack nightly. the police seem to ignore it on purpose.

  9. I agree ‘Thank you’, but in a free society we can also question and be critical as well. AND, one of the ways we maintain such freedoms is by exercising such constructive criticism.
