To say the job Auditor Kyte performed last Tuesday was less than stellar is an understatement. It was a disaster. Besides the wrong ballots being handed out in several precincts and the calling out of NON-REPUBLICANS showing up to vote against Amendment C, there was also the issue of Kyte running an election where he appeared on the ballot (a possible violation of state law). Well he did lose. But many have been asking if he is qualified to run a general election (his term doesn’t end until the Spring of 2023) or if they need to bring in outside help. Apparently it didn’t take the MCC very long to come up with a solution, posting this job ad on Friday;

No civics in our schools anymore. No one wants to run for school board. Truth and science seem to no longer matter. We struggle to find someone who can handle the auditor’s office. What’s happening to us? Are we becoming dumber? Is it because we spend too much time on social media, or at fast food drive-throughs? Maybe it’s time for literacy tests once again, but this time we will start with the auditor candidates.
For a Trump supporter being the auditor would be easy, because anything goes.
The rather loud, but clear communication among poll workers of a voter’s party registration was not just a “Ben Kyte-” or a “Minnehaha County Thing”.
Same thing occurred at a voting center in Taupev… err, ah, North Harrisburg … even when those presented who were registered as Republicans [gasp]!
The thought crossed my mind that since he was appointed and was then unsuccessful in the primary race to be elected to the office, Ben Kyte has simply decided to move onto that which is next for him.
Why do Republican county office holders, who are initially appointed to their positions by the county commission, then lose in the next Republican primary? #StatesAttorney #CountyAuditor
“If a county coroner was doing a bad job, would we ever know?”…..
I guess the voters had had Kyte-enough of him.
First you cry about no term limits, then you cry cause during Primaries we replace elected officials every two years. No need for term limits IF the people do their job. And that is what we are doing, DO NOT do what we want, we shall replace you in a primary.
That’s why Trump lost. We replaced him.
Sorry, but Ben Kyte’s effort was a breath of fresh air compared to what we endured with Road Rage Bob Litz. Sorry to see Ben lose to a card carrying Stop the Steal MAGAT.
Kyte was a man who never demonstrated an understanding of the importance of the vote in our lives. He was a second rate bookkeeper when he was terminated by CitiBank then brought into the auditor’s office as a pawn to be shaped by the county commission. Litz might have been quick on the trigger but you could count on him to try and do what was best.
“Woodstock”,
This depends on the definition of “the job”.
Deputy Coroners who provide quick closes (“Death, Unattended; Suicide”) after only cursory review of the circumstances of a death can actually attract business (e.g. people are brought to your county to be suicided while you are on call).
You may never ascend to be County Coroner, but will gain a referral network, albiet dark and unadvertised, in order to become a “Winston Wolf”, a Fixer to those in need of a fix.
See also, Charles Mix County, South Dakota.
I miss Road Rage Bob. I liked it when he used to help the Boy Scouts bring the ballot boxes inside to the courthouse.
Election irregularity. What’s new?
A Trump auditor? Who would have thought? Aren’t they the ones who are usually getting audited?
“‘Winston Wolf’?”…. “Could I put that on my resume, do you think?”…. “And tell me more about this ‘referral network'”… “Do you have to have Netflix?”….. “Say, on an other note, did you see where Russia now has their own McDonalds?”…… :
