Have any of you checked out the tornado damage from Monday’s early morning tornado in Sioux Falls? It was classified an EF-1 with 90 mile a hour winds, but it did a lot of damage, especially on South Glendale and West Avenues between 39th and 41st. But it hasn’t received much press coverage IMO, however, rather the press seems to be too worried about restoring power along Pendar Lane.
( and Woodstock adds: “Yep, that’s the second 41st Street tornado in almost three years”…. “But don’t worry, the Silverstar and the Chick-fil-A drive thru (somewhat nearby) both went unscathed”…. )
I much prefer a Taupeville tornado. Their roofless homes present a charming window of color, from the homes’ exposed rooms, that are then sprinkled with the glistening fineness from explosive insulation against a dull taupe background.
What about a haboob? Or, didn’t you want to make a big haboob about it?…..:
“Oh yah, Taupeville tornadoes”…. “Those can be a real doozy”…. ( … “And they do it with such class”…. ) ….
“Say, Woodstock again, sorry, but I was thinking”…. “Which kind of tornado would get faster and greater media attention do you think?”…. “One that struck Pendar Lane, or one that struck Taupeville?”…. “Oh, and how high-up the EF scale would a tornado have to be before the local media would give it immediate attention in a working class neighborhood around here?”…. #Foodtrucks #Boutiques #Breweries #Sanford #HonorFlights #PurpleHearts #StormCenter
And the game show question is: What type of tornado is good enough for a siren, but not good enough for immediate attention from the media?
Contestant #1: “A ‘1’?”
Game show host: “Wrong-o. It’s based on an EF scale.”
Contestant #2: “EF Houghton?”
Game show host: “Wrong-o again…. That’s a financial company that people listen too, or did, like a tornado siren.”
Contestant #3: “EF-2”
Game show host: “Well, we can only hope, but the real answer is: We are not sure.”
During the 2019 tornadoes, the sirens only worked south of 57th. Now, with this tornado, this past week, all of the sirens in town worked and a tornado touched down, but the media initially ignored it. I see a “culture” of indifference here, don’t you? Apparently, Taupeville will always be warned, but sometimes (Someday?) done of us will be informed.
What about the Parking Garage disaster?
Between the Parking Garage and that big white FEMA relocation center, which is located up in the NW corner of our fine city, just how many people could they house for the next derecho/haboob? And what about the new Amazon building, is that what it’s really for as well?
