During his address today there were a couple of interesting tidbits;
• He is proposing hiring an Art Specialist. He didn’t give many details but it sounded like a full time position. While I am somewhat supportive, (I think this idea has been floated by Mayor Huether and maybe even Mayor Munson) as someone said to me tonight, it seems like more of an authoritarian move to control the arts advancement in Sioux Falls (tourism). Not sure if I see that, so I will keep an open mind about the job duties. I think this will be a controversial addition and there may be dissenters on the council. I remember when TenHaken asked for a cultural officer and she quit. He may have a fight on his hands.
• Paul said there will be an announcement soon about a TIF being granted for an affordable housing project. Like the Art Specialist there were few details. I have felt that TIFs for affordable housing is a reasonable use of them, but I want to see if the TIF will benefit the dwellers or the developers.
While the meeting WAS posted in advanced on the city website, the PPT was not included. When the meeting started there was NO link to the live feed on the city website for at least 10 minutes at the beginning. Fortunately, Dakotanews was streaming the meeting on FB with their own cameras. I just find it ironic that Mr. TechNology was so concerned about his PPT being posted in advance they had to delay the live feed so it would NOT appear until after the meeting started.

The Mayor can create or establish any OFFICE he so desires. I think the goal here is to appoint or hire a “ART SPECIALIST” as a position to regulate, manage, and work with the Art Community in beautifying community public things, buildings, objects, etc. I see nothing wrong with this, and as a FREE PEOPLE we have the right to self govern, manage ourselves, to do things in OUR IMAGE. GOD created us in his image, an GOD gave us the ability to mould ourselves in the image we wish to become. “WE” elected a Mayor who wishes to beautify the City in his image, of which “WE” consented to as we voted for and chose him to be our mayor. 70% of the residents support his decisions.
Art director sounds like another temporary thing like so many recent other appointments. Sounds like a way to give a lazy relative a job then 6 months severance pay. There are advertising firms that could handle this with short term contracts.

prove to me that 70% of the people approve of his decisions. more accurate wording is 70% of the people who voted approve of his decisions. i see a lot wrong with paying an “art specialist” a 6 figure salary, when our streets are shit and prices on everything are skyrocketing. couple that with the fact pritchett is already setting us up for yet another tax increase with his talk of declining revenues due to reduced spending due to inflation.
You bring up a great point. In this last election PTH managed to get his supporters out to vote, SESF (North Harrisburg) while the rest of the city hardly bothered. It was thru and very well managed web/FB advertising strategy.
