I was NOT at the meeting tonight, so the only copy I have is this screenshot from David presenting the claim to the city at public input (he is the last person to talk at the end of the meeting).
It sounds like a potential civil rights lawsuit. David did say he was ‘considering’ taking action, so he hasn’t filed an actual suit against the city, but notified them that he may.
From his testimony and presentation this is about how the SFPD treats people. Even if David sues and loses the case, at least the noise from the suit will let some sunshine into our police force.
I have heard rumors that since Chief Thum took over he has been trying to clean up the bad officers with some success, but he knows it is a Herculean task. Let’s just say that Thum is probably feeling more like a house cleaner then a police officer these days.
The SFPD has neglected properly training and reprimanding officers for decades and so now there is years of institutional bad habits that will probably take twice as long to remedy.
There is also a rumor circulating that several top officials with the SFPD and SFFD are walking out the door with the mayor in 2026. Some are scheduled retirements some are NOT.
If this is true, it will be a great learning opportunity for the new mayor new councilors in 2026, lets just hope they are all NEW and not USED.

WHO IS RUNNING IN THE MAYORAL RACE?
I’m a little surprised that I have NOT heard an announcement yet. The election is less then a year away and I was at least expecting one major announcement by now. And if you are running for an open seat, you would be wise to be the first to announce, because people will remember you because you will be the media darling for several days.
I wonder if one-term Jensen will run for mayor? I see that Pitty Patt put up a post about how Jensen is running for the legislature and NOT seeking a second term on the council. Nice smoke and mirrors. We all know you can’t run for mayor and city council at the same time. So Pitty, I call Bullsh!t on you!
The election is in just under three years, not less than one year away.
I wish the ACLU would investigate circumstances such as this. There could be a class action. I recall when someone who was to present about Denty siding was arrested and held 8 hours including during a city council meeting. I myself was harassed monthly for a year with police to my home. Never a charge or explanation. If you do public comment at council meetings, expect some form of police harassment from the mayor’s ‘Bag of Tricks’. Police have no body cameras so they can bouncer bully citizens without there being evidence. There’s no ‘Joe Floyd’ but there is unnecessary roughness. The police chief can polish internal affairs and force some resignations. However, this mayor is wholly responsible. Police brutality is a national problem. It doesn’t belong in a midsize Midwest city. It’s a good campaign topic for 2024. It’s time to remove the hit man element from the ‘9th and Main Mafia’.

A lawyer could advise David not to meet with the city. City Hall is nothing but threats with no record. Preparing for a month in court requires discovery and major advance work. Time and expense that takes away from city TIF’s. The obstruction pretty much stalls the rest of the mayor term. Citizens are safe from police for awhile.
There is no mayoral race in 2024. There will be four open council seats in 2024 with no incumbents if Jensen gets in a different race. Get ready for Stehly.
If he had not gotten a ticket, or citation, a law suit in the circuit court will not do him any favors. He would not have any standing. This is why you really do not want to carry your driver license or insurance car with you. Keep them in your sock drawer (safe). But at the minimum, always provide the cop your First and Last Name, they can get the rest of info from the vin # or plate #. This allows you to stand on your defense in the circuit court, pushing the matter to a jury trial, where you can place the cop on the witness stand where you can cross examine them. traffic citations are 99.9% beatable in court of law. They are merely civil penalties.
I’d pay good money to watch a Mike Z vs. David Z debate.
