So Christine pulled herself from hiding (not really) today and was featured on the podcast of the Dakota Scout.* She talked about a run for mayor at the very end of the podcast.
Christine has been a pretty effective politician, organizing the FREE youth bus rides, changing the school start date (though the fascists on the school board overturned it the next year, because that is the cool thing to do 🙁 and saving a packing plant that apparently didn’t need saving.)
She has moxie. And I don’t say that about a lot of people. While Erickson and Stehly could be worlds apart, they share this passion. Women who understand leadership know they must work twice as hard, be twice as loud and fight right up until the end to be effective.
Christine checks those boxes. She also doesn’t let criticism deter her.
While she wouldn’t be my first choice in the 2026 mayoral election (there are some interesting names dropping lately) if it was a runoff between her and another candidate, she would probably crush it.
A fellow city government nerd who leans left like me said to me today, ‘I think Christine would be a good mayor, because she wouldn’t tolerate the BS and she knows how to organize.’ That pretty much summed it up for me.
In the brief time I got to know Christine, one thing stands out, she takes no prisoners, and she will always fight for you. I may not agree with her on numerous policy points, but I can guarantee Christine would never show up to a presser and say, ‘I didn’t sign up for this.’ or ‘I got a million other things to do.’ Likely she would say, “Well this f’ckn sucks! Let’s fix it!”
I think we might see our first female Sioux Falls mayor. But can she do jumping jacks?
*Towards the end of the podcast, Christine decided to spread a bunch of BS about EVs, and of course Joe and Jon jumped on the rightwinger bandwagon. Christine claimed that EVs cost $60,000 grand. Sure, depending on the model. But you can get a used one in the teens and a newer, more modest model for around $30K. The technology with EVs is moving so fast, batteries for these vehicles will hold enough charge that will compete with combustion within a few years (there are already EV’s out there that have long distance charges). And once the car companies figure out battery exchange stations, you won’t have to wait for a charge. The right winger tropes about EVs always cracks me up. They are making anti-EV arguments from 1995.
With all the ramblings about the autoworkers strike and converting to EV manufacturing I just laugh at the CEO’s of these companies. You could of had a very successful and profitable EV transition years ago, but you decided to kill that? Didn’t you?
I like her as mayor.
There should be a woman for mayor. Never gonna happen because women are not corrupt enough to sell out to Lloyd. What bothers me about Erickson is the AirBNB connection. Hotels belong in a district and not in neighborhoods. There seems to be more disturbances and flaky types hotels better control. After some time, an AirBNB becomes the trash that depletes property values.
EV’s need time for acceptance, uniform design, and safe battery design. Stay away from Hybrid. Combining electric and gas is long expensive days for dealer service. For now, gas cars are going down in price while EV’s are a third more. Gas price is stable to going down because there’s more EV’s. Buy a 30mpg and sell it for what you paid for it in 3 years. Buy an EV with batteries to expensive to replace and nowhere for hazardous recycling. It’ll sit in your backyard after less than 5 years. Sure, bring out your tree hugger a few years. However, in the end there’s more harm than good.
Couldn’t be any worse than the last two? Unless of course she wants to build her own “palace”.
It’s definitely Erickson’s to lose. She once worked to “Save the Summer”, but now with climate change we need to save our Fall and Spring.
Oh, and EV’s are to combustible vehicles what ebikes are to motorcycles…. 😉 …. AND, maybe she’s against EVs because the Summer will be longer, and get longer, without them…. 🙂
But I’ll never forget when she claimed (2018) that the State recognizes our TIFs when it comes to otherwise disparaging attempts to raise adequate funding for our schools. I believe a member of the current Mayor’s pre-re-election “Accessible Housing” Committee said the same thing a few years later (2022), but what do I know?… I guess you can be adequately compensated for a loss from those who fail to compensate you to begin with, huh?…. Maybe…. 🙁

There would definitely be transparency with Erickson. You can hear her heels from miles away.
I predicted that our current Mayor would get 73%. Do you guys remember that one? AND, Erickson will be our next mayor and Liz Cheney our next president in ’28. Mark my words. But no further predictions than that, because beyond five years there is no future thanks to climate change and A.I. …… OH, I guess that would be my final prediction…..
She appears to have a new doo. That’s always a sign of candidacy. I believe you all remember when NM Gov. Gary Johnson showed up with a mohawk, don’t you?…. ( …. Or, was that Kucinich?…. )

erickson…if that’s still her name, which for politically name id purposes she should stay with…will be more more of the same.
i personally suspect she’ll be almost exactly the same as tenhaken and huether. she loves tifs, developers, and the tax breaks on her airbnbs.
