There have been many funny convos with downtowners about this situation. If you haven’t been DTSF for awhile, I will summarize. There is an existing newer apartment building on the corner of 13th and 2nd Avenue (West of of Sunshine GS) called Prescott Place. A developer is building a new building to the North of it, and as you can see, someone is losing their patio view. This should have never been approved to be this close to the existing structure.

If only it was a historic district, then maybe we could bring her down. Come to think of it, would those all encompassing Fort Sod military reservation historic markers that one finds around town, could they be used to justify the demolition?
“Wow, that’s cool!”…. “Here I live in a historic district and I didn’t even know it”….
That’s how they build in Tijuana. Although, their storage containers are far more authentic.
That is part of the “South Dakota Freedom” that we spend money to promote promote and live by.
Are you against Freedom?
Wat this another TIF project?
I foresee teens on a dare climbing up the walls spider-like. When they fall, lawyers go after building associations and (eventually) city zoning.
Planning and Zoning has to follow the ordinances as written. Not doing so is a reversion to the small town – “do me a favor neighbor” – form of 100% ad hoc governance. I.E., it’s all about who you know. If the ordinance was written to permit this – that’s is what is permitted.
Hey Archie – you know in TJ so long as you don’t finish your building, you don’t pay property taxes. That’s why y6ou see so many buildings with re-bar sticking up in the air above them. That’s where the next story is going to be built when they get to it. Meanwhile…….
I love Freedom. It’s even one of my favorite gas stations…. But like my cranky old Uncle likes to remind me, it ain’t free.
As much as they’re currently mad about this situation, they’re going to be furious if/when they decide to try to sell as nobody is going to want a deck that looks into their neighbors. Unless, of course, there’s some exhibitionist hotties in that new space.
Then the Bunker Ramp must be a fine example of Post-Tijuana. Here I thought it was Post-Berlin.
Such obvious architecture would have made Hitchcock’s plot far too predictable:

It also might be time to start buying shade and drape stocks.
“Prescott”, that’s normally a name you only hear at a swanky private country club, right Barron?
Hudson, I thought the same thing. I guess ******** peeps think alike. LOL.
The most frustrating thing about living next to some “exhibitionist hotties” would be locating their Instagram, TikTok, or OnlyFans accounts. Often they use aliases…. Not that I would know, but a friend of mine told me this.
“‘exhibitionist hotties’?”…. “Wow, back in my day we didn’t give them that much credit…. We just called them slxts, but if we liked them, then we called them a slush”…..
( ….”Or, was that a lush?”…. 🙁 )
Don’t ask if there’s a zoning variance. The city can’t find one but they’ll write you one if they can borrow your pen.
