So happy about this film. I have been absolutely infatuated with this song lately. And if any dolt can tell me what it is about, that would be helpful;

A tragic loss at age 27. Back in the day, when I and my family used to Griswold across the country, there was always a TOP 40 on the radio each summer, which became the theme song for each of our given treks. I first discovered her brilliant voice in the summer of ’07 during our trip to Florida and the Keys with this song:

VSG – a French Exit is when you pull out after Dien Bien Phu.
It’s a cover of a song by a band called the Zutons.
According to a 2019 interview with Vice, the lyrics of “Valerie” were inspired by a makeup artist named Valerie Star, who was in a relationship with Zutons leader Dave McCabe. Star was set to fly to the U.K. to visit McCabe when she was arrested for driving with a suspended license, causing the trip to be canceled. He reacted to the news by quickly jotting down some lyrics while riding in the back of a taxi, which eventually turned into the song “Valerie.”
Thanks Scott, I didn’t want to google it because I wanted someone to give me the version. I love Amy’s version much better, though the Zuton’s version has a great Gin Blossoms feel about it, lol. Valerie also reminds me of some of my ‘two week’ relationships.
Thanks RV, my mind was sadly headed towards a French kiss or a French pastry.

( and Woodstock adds: “I believe the translation for ‘Dien Bien Phu’ is ‘been there and done that’, which is actually a lot like a French k…..” 🙂 )
