I wasn’t making the suggestion, but a friend and I were discussing all the murders in Sioux Falls over the past year and he suggested it.

I actually defended the police on one aspect, they have no idea domestic disputes are occurring in private residences unless someone reports it, so prevention of domestic violence is a tough one to tackle and actually takes the work of many non-profits in our community.

But I can’t defend the police when these murders occur in open spaces like a public park.

I think Thum has done a good job of trying to clean up a department that has morale issues, BUT he needs to UP the patrols of the officers. Several of these murders were preventable because they occurred in public spaces.

Just look at the Dunham Park incident. Nobody called the incident in while the physical fight was occurring in the middle of the afternoon in a park surrounded by apartments? C’mon!

I’ve said since the city’s covid lockdown SOME city employees haven’t really changed their habits of laziness. I have often said that ALL city employees need to have there workflows annually inspected, and if they are NOT up to par, lay them off. It would be harder to fire them do to how a Union works, but you could lay people off due to budgetary reasons. In other words cutting payroll so the mayor would have NO choice but to lay people off. Now while the mayor has the power to hire and fire whoever he wants to without interference from the council, the council does set the budget and they could slash payroll and leave it up to the mayor to cut the fat.

And the mayor’s lack of effective employee leadership is contributing to the problem. When your a city employee busting your butt filling potholes and you see the mayor that makes 5x what you do doing jumping jacks at an elementary school in the middle of the morning, it makes you not want to fill those potholes very fast. And cute little challenge coins don’t mean nothin’.

I have often said city employees are an INVESTMENT and we should make sure that INVESTMENT is working for us. So whether that is a parks worker or a patrol officer we need to give them all the tools to be successful and effective.

  1. Right now, we appear to be having a murder in SF about once every three and a half weeks. So, we should get one more before Christmas. And, then we will be having all of those suicides around January 20th, which will distort the news cycle and cause us to ignore murder for a while, which could be a good face-saving opportunity for many of our local political leaders. But it does appear that almost all of these murders are the result of drugs, homelessness, and domestic abuse…. AND, have you noticed they don’t appear to be happening in Taupeville, which further speaks to the ‘Tale of Two Cities’ theme that appears to predicate our full existence around here as an alleged city of ‘One’…… And did you know, that in North Korea, you can earn a button that says, ‘Un Pyongyang’?

  2. Here’s a little tidbit I discovered the other day, there is around 40 dental offices in SF, only 4 of them North of 26th street, and furthest north is falls community health

  3. You mean, only four north of 26th? I’m not surprised. Dental offices tend to be taupe-ish in nature so that they blend in and are not noticed unless ‘One’ has to go to ‘One’. If dental offices tend to gravitate towards Taupeville, however, then what does that say about our oral history in this town? Is it primarily made up by those south of 57th? Most likely, which does not surprise me, because they tend to be the voices of dominance and dictation in this town of ‘One.’ If Taupeville then is giving us all of the oral, then who is supplying the means to an end?….. If you know what I mean. #TakeABiteOutOfCrime #PitBullLeadership #TaupeWhitener #WhiteChurchWhiteTeethWhiteCity #LimitlessWhiteness #DrillBabyDrill #OralExam #DentalThong #IMeanFloss #NowThatsADentalAssistant #OpenWide #IJustNeedToTakeOneMorePictureOfYou #B(r)ushThreeTimesADay #HookersCakeThenCavities

  4. Fake news! All of this happens in Blue Cities as in everything Democrats run turns to S****! That is the constant rhetoric from the extreme right.

  5. Here’s a little tidbit I discovered the other day. There are now 7 Papa Murphy’s locations in SF, only 1 of them north of 26th street, and that one is still south of downtown. No take and bake for north enders either!

  6. So, those of us who live south of 26th, but north of 57th, are we a part of the in-crowd, or do we just think we are?
AND, why isn’t the local strip bar north of 26th? But then again, Limitless is south of 57th. So, further, It’s all beginning to make sense to me. I also thought it was interesting how the traffic jam on Minnesota Avenue yesterday, which was a bunch of cars in line waiting to get a free Bosses Pizza, came from the north, and there was no southern line. Although, this all played out south of 26th. You would also think that Ghost House at 33rd and Duluth, which is south of 26th, would have been taken care of by now, but then again, maybe this is a sure sign that those of us living north of 57th and south of 26th are really not a part of the in-crowd, but rather just ignored mistresses and naive accomplices to the Taupe Lords of the South.

If this is true, it is an indictment of the citizenry, rather than the police department and police chief.
I am developing a point of view that the level of criminal activity in Sioux Falls is bolstered by lazy prosecution by the State Attorneys of Minnehaha and Lincoln County and their respective staffs, as well as a panel of circuit judges and magistrates who are soft on crime.
Lots of recidivism (aka repeat customers to law enforcement), it seems.
