The top 4 projects were either paid for by taxpayers or patients, and none of these projects will produce property tax revenue. I have often said the building permits need to be split-up between commercial, housing, institutional non-profit and government and show us what the private sector is really doing. It still puzzles me that you can boast about spending our tax and healthcare dollars and spin it into some big statement on growth. When non-profits and government are spending more on development then the private sector, you got problems. Then there is all the grift in the form of tax rebates and TIF’s for the private developers. All $1 Billion in building permits means to me is my taxes and healthcare costs are going up.
The City also claims that we will have a population of 219,000 by the end of the year. If that’s the case, then we will be bigger than Salt Lake proper, and we are already bigger than Des Moines proper, which means Sioux Falls is now the biggest town, I mean city, in six states…. If we are not careful, however, we will start to have big blue-city problems, like homelessness, housing affordability, and crime…. Even Dusty has now gone MAGA, but then again, he did once nominate Jim Jordan to be the speaker after Dusty had complained about the clowns in the House Republican caucus (?). Its days are coming to an end. I can hear the TikTok. One day, communism will end, and the next day, fascism will resume. At least we can still be Short with YouTube as our democracy is cut short by a political leader who wants to shoot demonstrators in the leg and have unmarked federal forces protect the “peoples” grounds. Some may laugh at this, but I hope we all can over time. While our property taxes and home insurance costs skyrocket, and with little rain or snow, we have political leaders who want us to focus, instead, on Greenland, the Gulf, and the Panama Canal. FOX blames Woke policies for the LA fires, but wasn’t it an absence of Woke that once gave us the Watts fires? The Republicans claim a “Mandate” with a current one-vote majority in the House. Is that really how it works? Or, does nothing work anymore, and it has all just become a charade? McDonalds might have recently given us a $5 meal, hired Trump, and caught a killer, but it’s going to take more than a Happy Meal to make us happy once again. Perhaps, a new Stormy story would make us laugh again, or would it just allow a felon to continue as president? A president with a felony, what should we tell the kids?…. As soon as they are all off TikTok, that is….
