This should be entertaining. Apparently Pastor Poops is feeling the pressure. I’m sure he will do what he always does, blame the tenants and tell them not to call him. I hope our diminishing press corps at this event will ask tough questions and hold his feet to the fire. As the chief administrator of our city he should be concerned for all renters (I believe 80% of our population in Sioux Falls rents, I saw this stat recently, but can’t find the reference, so just ‘Trump’ trust me on this one Recently the council approved a 170 unit workforce housing complex that was in a perfect location and guess who was basically the only detractor? Another slumlord in town. I told a couple of councilors, ‘He is opposed because it will steal low income renters from him. I used to rent from this family, SLUMLORDS thru and thru.’ It’s time this city cracks down on these folks. I suggest the council put together a set of ordinances that would basically force slumlords out of operation, we will see if they have the courage.

he dont give a crap about the living conditions of what these people go through he said he was TICKED off 2 years ago.. supposed to work for the people what a joker
Be careful, there Scott. Whether you want to call them slum-lords or not, they are also “Small Business” owners. Whether you believe they are good or not, they provide a service back to the people. I would not suggest the council pass a series of ordinances to chase small business owners out of the city. Cause as a small business owner myself, I to understand the hardship of having to compete in a city so focused on brining in large-retail chain stores, let alone being forced to compete with large property holders who are being ‘subsidized’ by the very city council to provide this new-age concept of mixed-use commercial development which not only paves the way to stack residential space on top of retail space, but also raises our property taxes alongside the smaller residential spaces. Knowing the hardship of what it takes to plan, zone, and search your way through our complex Planning and Zoning Ordinance known as “Shape Places”, we need an ordinance that is focused on giving smaller businesse owners, and landlords the ability to much more economically, invest in the upkeep and maintenance of their properties, and less on focusing only on large retail/property development. Perhaps, we should push forward, instructing the federal government to stop subsidizing rents, by force-feeding landlords to provide housing to low income people by stop paying for 50% or 75% of the “rents”. This may lead to a more balanced approach to finding good tenants, furthermore, convince the landlords to provide better services to the low-income renters.
Mike’s plan would improve the quality of housing while forcing more people to the blue tarps. No wonder they now want to call it “accessible” and not “affordable” housing.
( and Woodstock adds: “Say, didn’t Vance say during the campaign that illegals were the cause of our housing shortage?”….. “So, with all of these ‘massive deportations’ isn’t the problem now solved?”…..
)
This effort is intended for one corporate landlord from Florida. They’ll have to compete now because there’s a glut of rental property in the city. This’ll handle itself. However, it’s good press time for TenHaken who will take undeserved credit. Lloyd died so unnecessary apartments construction should stall without city zoning favoritism. Rents should come down. Quality should improve as per leasor pressure.
My takeaway from the presser is that the mayor called out tenants for not filing code complaints. If tenants don’t tell the City the problems they can’t do anything about it. First priority for the Mayor should be to pass anti retaliation ordinances.
“Say, at what point will the Mayor and the rest of our City leaders begin to blame this whole problem on DEI training?”… ( ….. “I wonder if DEA has DEI, because I know DOD does, or used to, but what does DOGE think of all of this?”
)
Could this Mayor have done the presser in any louder of an environment? What was the point of conducting it and competing with traffic while speaking? He once again shows an attitude of not wanting to be bothered by the problems of the citizens.
