Ron Paul Wins 2010 CPAC Straw Poll
Only 2,395 straw poll votes were cast by what organizers said was 10,000 attendees at this year’s CPAC.

This is for president in 2012 of course.
It really doesn’t look like the name Thune is on everyone’s lips.
Plenty of people in my neck of the woods are glad Tim Pawlenty’s name was nothing more than a name wedged between Paul and Romney.
I’ve written a list below of the good things Pawlenty has done in the last two years for Minnesota:
Helga- The SD MSM loves them some John Thune, he does no wrong.
It makes sense – both because Paul’s suporters are quite energetic and because he’s the only one who is actually an alternative to the last nine years.
Paul would be the Republican’s only chance to win the WH in 2012 IMHO. If the Republicans want what they say they want than Paul is the purest candidate they can advance and quite frankly the only one with the actual creds to bring this country back to a balanced budget. From his web site:

He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.

Ironically, Obama may just give Paul the cover he needs by ending the Iraq war. Team Obama would attack his age just like they did with McCain, but I think that Paul would absolutely crush Obama in a debate on fiscal policy. Paul could actually subvert the “Change” message Obama won’t have in 2012 and replace it with “Change to massive deficits isn’t change…balance or die”
Plus, Paul could fire up the grass roots on both sides as he’s shown he capable of. He’d easily peel of 10 million or so Libertarian Democrats along with most of the Tea Partiers.
As for Thune, he’s smart enough to know he doesn’t want the “frontrunner” status, as all that means is you (and your family) are in the crosshairs of the MSM from now until you die.
I don’t think Thune is thinking at all about 2012, more like 2016.

Some older CPAC attendees don’t seem to care much for the Texas congressman, sure, but many young activists seem to regard him as a hero of sorts. When he talks about the debt, like he did on Friday, calling it a “monster†that will “eat up†our future, it was with a passion that you can’t fake in politics. Brillant to tie Obama to Wilson, but not by name. Plenty of time for that later.

I’m not sure I’d go that far as I suspect there are several GOP candidates who could best Obama. Add to that the recent mantra of the public which suggests they are ready and willing to vote for any and all non-incumbent politicians until things improve in Washington…. and I think this race might be a lot closer than some believe. I would not be shocked at all to see Obama be a one term President.
However, if Paul earns the nomination I think he would probably have a very good chance at success merely due to his proven track record of fiscal conservatism coupled with his appeal from the moderates and libertarians.

That’s what most of these so-called “conservatives” lack.
If you want ot challenge the current administration’s spending habits, you have to do so credibly. Paul is the only one who can.
And really, conservatives, Rick Santorum? How that guy got a single vote is a mystery.

Perhaps it would be good, and/or fun, if Thune were in the frontrunner status, the press might take a real look at who he really is and what he has and has not done. More has not done then he has done anything. Check out who he lobbied for and who the Mrs. works for.
Oh, Paul is a nut, like his feelings on defunding public education. But believe it or not, he makes more sense then the rest of them, how fucking scary is that!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I agree. I just think his stance on social programs is a little wishy-washy. There is certain things as Americans I think we are entitled to, and public education is one of them. Is it perfect? Hell no! but it beats the shit out of illiteracy.
