i would like to know where the candidates think the statue of munson should be placed.
The same place his plaque should be placed; at the bottom of the Sioux River.
It could be displayed next to the Verendrye plate! Or, maybe the next mayor could just sell it for scrap metal like any mayor would do, back when Sioux Falls was awesome.

Last Wednesday the candidates showed up at Leonardo’s for a candidates forum put on by the Sioux Falls Green Project. The Green Project is a local advocacy group that is interested in sustainable business, design, policy and living. A noble undertaking to be sure. I had wanted to attend to get a feel for how our candidates preach to a special interest choir. I have since found out by talking to someone in attendance all the candidates were ready to open up to the wants and needs of sustainability.
This is what amazes me. They ALL say fiscal conservatism, and wise spending will be their hallmark. Those are the popular buzz words in this campaign and know if elected, that is what will be the deciding factor. Case in point. Todays two articles in the Argus on Bill Peterson. In one article he says,
“I want to give the citizens the best possible service for the least possible cost to taxpayers.”
On funding a McArena, Bill says this in the other article.
“As far as funding the project goes, I can support anything the people will support in order to pay for it. That can include a one-cent temporary increase in the sales tax, private donations, user fees, tax increment financing, the important thing is to get it built.”
That’s right bill. Preach like a Kermit wannabe in one article, and then turn around and say git er done, even if it means an added penny sales tax.
I know. Kermit’s voting record and his record on amendments to the budget speak for themselves. They love to talk out of both sides of their mouths. On one hand they are ‘fiscally responsible’ but given the chance they will blow your money on monkey crappers the first chance they get. Vernon would probably be the worst, then Huether. You have to remember, Huether is used to working for a large organization that took in a lot of money and probably spent a lot of money. Does a city the size of Sioux Falls need to spend a lot of money to maintain? Of course, but it also needs to prioritize and make sure that that spending is directed to ‘ALL’ of the citizens.

When you’re a department head at a for-profit company, you have a budget and stick to it. If you don’t keep costs down, you can be replaced quickly.
If only it was so easy to get rid of politicians.
I guess Kermit did pretty good in this forum. I can’t find a video link but someone said that he had a lot of creative ideas. That is one thing I think is lacking on the arts boards in Sioux Falls, creative thinkers.

I Know. It is almost comical, if it wasn’t so sad.
I remember when I was invited to an Arts Night committee meeting and I presented them with some of my ideas. They looked at me like I was from some other planet – then they implemented some of those same ideas a few years later.
They like to brag about progress, but progress only comes from ‘progressive’ ideas.
