Beyond that, it isn’t just low wages that help businesses thrive here. I saw a report once that compared the costs of a typical corporate headquarters office and if it cost $20 million to build in Sioux Falls, the same place runs you $22 million to build in Omaha, $24 million to build in Minneapolis or KC. Annual operating costs were also comparatively cheaper. The low tax rates & low unemployment are as much if not more of a factor.
No income taxes doesn’t hurt either, just the people that have to buy food.
