In the short time Mike has been in office, he has accomplished quite a bit. These are some things I will applaud him on;

• Ramped up street repair

• Appointed a new city attorney

• Improved communication with citizens

Here are some things I would like to see him take on;

• Dismantle code enforcement’s current structure, fix it to include due process and fire anyone who has drug their feet on not making it better

• Trim some fat at the top. Layoff any middle management in the city that is unneeded and require department heads to earn their pay and do their job

• Spend less time talking and going to meetings and more time implementing policy. Not only will you accomplish more, you might even earn yourself some much needed free time.

10 Thoughts on “Mayor Mike’s short term achievements

    For a short time frame, he’s had good progress.

    It’s going to take a lot more to clean up Munson mess.

    He has done a very good job. My parents are elderly and had problems with blight in the neighborhood. Junk cars and garbage, weeds, etc. and the health department and code enforcement cleaned that up good. I dont think anyone should have their property value go down because of slobs, its good to see the oaks get torn down too.

    I don’t have a problem with code enforcement, I have a problem with how they handle it. Due process and property rights guaranteed by the US Constitution need to be honored.

    I am with I3wis, Code enforcement is fine as long as it is enforced equally across the board. I was nailed with a repair for a 3 /4 inch rise on my sidewalk and our area is only 6 years old! OK I will be blackmailed into fixing it. What is the responsibility of the contractor who built it? Hopefully it was not the one who built our house (but that is another story)! Maybe the infamous ‘they’ will review Phillips between 14th and 18th. Also, I was downtown last weekend and the sidewalks around the Pavilion could be addressed they are in bad shape and that is their good point! Check out the codes for State and county repairs of sidewalks. http://www.siouxfalls.org/PublicWorks/engineering/sidewalks

    Interesting, now even the state has their grubby hands into forcing property owners to take care of city property. Isn’t it amazing, we pay property taxes for education expenses and sales taxes for monkey crappers. Gee, wouldn’t it make sense to use this revenue to keep up with city infrastructure?

    Don’t forget Mike was at the Storm game the other night where he flipped the opening coin toss.

    I don’t want to brag him up, but he flipped the coin WAY better than Munson ever would have. I’m just sayin’…

  8. Trust me, if I would have to choose between Dave and Mike, Mike would be the obvious choice.

    It’s a coin toss. Munson was the worst mayor in Sioux Falls history. HOME RULE gives you power that makes you a monster. Huether is good for now but he’s new and may become even worse than Munson.

    I’m starting to come around a bit. There is obvious things I will never agree with him on, BUT at least he is communicating with people, and that is a good thing.
