Here we go again. Voters in SD have clearly said they are pro-choice, twice, but some of our state legislators still don’t freaking get it;
The Legislature finds that as abortion medicine is now practiced in South Dakota that:
(1)Â Â Â Â In the overwhelming majority of cases, abortion surgery and medical abortions are scheduled for a pregnant mother without the mother first meeting and consulting with a physician or establishing a traditional physician-patient relationship;
And that’s just (1) – read the whole thing. I also find it ironic that I could only count two (2) female sponsors. Maybe I’m wrong, I didn’t know all of the names, if someone could clarify, that would be great. They are bolded and italicized.
Introduced by:Â Â Â Â Representatives Hunt, Abdallah, Bolin, Brunner, Cronin, Feickert, Gosch, Greenfield, Hansen (Jon), Hickey, Hoffman, Hubbel, Jensen, Kirschman, Kloucek, Kopp, Magstadt, Munsterman, Nelson (Stace), Russell, Steele, Stricherz, Tornow, Tulson, Van Gerpen, Venner, and Wick and Senators Novstrup (Al), Brown, Heineman, Holien, Kraus, Lederman, Maher, Olson (Russell), Rave, Rhoden, and Schlekeway
Frankly I don’t care if it is abortion, video lottery, or term limits… I think if the people have spoken it shouldn’t be able to even be brought back for five years.
I’m sick of hearing about the same issues each and every legislative session. If those lame-asses in Pierre can’t come up with any new and creative ideas to occupy their time, then they should just sit at home and save us the trouble.
I feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day.
By the way – WTF is wrong with people that they keep sending these same idiots back again and again? That list of sponsors is like a whose who list of legislative failures.
Once again the hypocrites want to put gov’t. in our lives, even though they rail against it all the time. They want less gov’t. But when it comes to controlling women, not a problem……more gov’t. is wonderful. They are doing their best to send women back to the dark ages.
I would like to know the answer to Costner’s question, WHY do people keep sending the idiots back to Pierre and or DC, either one.
There are actually 5 female sponsors. The legislature is 20% female — 21 of the 105 elected officials. 5 of the 21 women in the legislature sponsored the bill. I don’t think that is particularly remarkable either way.
It’s a tremendous stretch to lump video lottery and term limits in with abortion.
Why are we sending the same ones to Pierre? And how many times are these same issues going to be put on a ballot? How many times do the voters of this state get to be insulted by voting on the same legislation for the um-teenth time?
These sponsors ought to be ashamed of themselves! Why not work on more important issues like the BUDGET? Maybe they should work for free until they can come up with any new ideas— Now there’s a way to balance our state budget.
Oh I am sure that a number of men on this list have experience in driving their ex-girlfriends to the clinic when they were younger.
Stricherz is a female.
I don’t think anyone should be able to sponsor legislation or vote on abortion unless they actually have, or at one point had, a uterus.
Let the men vote on the other important stuff like mandatory gun ownership and sports mascots.
Same story different day. They get elected by saying we all want government out of our lives, then they do the opposite.
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. ”
– Benjamin Franklin
How does it feel South Dakota, to be governed both in State and Federal representation by insane people?
Stricherz and Kraus are women.
“Let the men vote on the other important stuff like mandatory gun ownership and sports mascots.”
I have often joked with myself, if I was ever elected to the SD state legislature my first bill would be “Official SD Beer”
name ONE good microbrew from SD that might qualify for such an honor…
Firehouse in Rapid has a decent IPA…
Not sure, but there have been a few I liked. I was saying it more on a general level. Working in the restaurant industry, I would have to say, it would probably be Bud Light. Which is truly disgusting.
Didn’t Ms. Unruh’s “clinic” just receive an honor from the Legislature? Talk about a waste of taxpayer time.
Ollie: It’s a tremendous stretch to lump video lottery and term limits in with abortion.
How so? They are all three issues that are discussed each and every legislative session, so based upon that fact alone there is no stretching whatsoever. They are also issues the people have spoken on more than once yet our legislators continue to wish to bring them back time and time again… again no stretching.
Truth be told I’m actually a pro-life guy so wanting to ban abortion* doesn’t bother me, but ignoring the voice of the people surely does.
*With real, legitimate exceptions in the case of health to the mother, severe birth defects in the fetus etc, etc.

The voters either agree, in principle, with the “same idiots”, or lack the conviction to turn them out at the polls.
As a Republican, I hold strong conviction that single issue troglodytes like Roger Hunt need to be turned out by the voters.
My conviction is so strong in this regard that a few years ago, I actually cast my vote for Mary Ann Giebink (rather than Roger Hunt) in a legislative race (though I must admit, I threw up just a little in the back of my mouth as my pencil darkened the circle next to Giebink’s name!).
Toss the bums out !
Whens Leslie Unruh gonna take a hike?
Goes to prove there a whole bunch of idiots out there. It seems like all they ever want to do is waste time and money on non-important things. They should start spending time on important things like how to raise money without cutting important items. One way they could raise some money would be to quit bribing businesses to come to SD with low paying jobs, by giving them huge tax breaks. They could also tax advertising. There are numberous more important things for them to worry about, other than abortion, or video lottery. As far as term limits go, they will never vote that in for themselves. Term limits should be put on the ballot, two terms for each side and when they have served the two terms they can’t turn around and run for the other branch. As far as Wick and Steel go,
I am ashamed to say I am in their district. A few years ago I had words with both of them about abortion and found them to be very know it all and condescending.
Same kooks- look at the new ones…. Hickey, Hubbel, Haagar, We send kooks new and old
Haggar is a goofy lookin broad. I don’t get the idea that she is cute. There is something odd going on when I look at her.
Also Noem has a really long nose (it’s big) but she still pulls it off.
This bill might aswell go through. I don’t see what will stop it. It will be such a GOP year it might pass on the ballot.
