Andy Traub plans to address the council tonight during the public testimony about the Charter Revision Commission’s latest meeting. It should be a good one. Andy was given permission to use audio from the meeting during his testimony. I know that Andy won’t be the only one speaking. A couple of other citizens have hinted to me they will be speaking out about it to.

WATCH THE MEETING. LISTEN TO PUBLIC INPUT AT THE BEGINNING

FF TO 27:00 TO HEAR ENTENMAN AND HUETHER HEAD TO THE CORN FIELD WITH THE MANURE SPREADER.

Sometimes Holsen knows exactly how I feel about a topic, and I couldn’t agree more with her latest post;

However, the mayor is the one who still reviews the applications and decides who to recommend for appointment. When I retired from city government service, I wanted to give back to the city by volunteering my time to serve on two boards that I felt I could provide credible and knowledgeable service. I immediately put in applications to serve on one of the two pension boards and the charter revision commission. I have never received so much as a letter or contact of interest regarding my applications. I also know of others who would have been credible and knowledgeable volunteers for the Charter Revision Commission who were also not contacted by the mayor’s office.

I got treated the same way. While I don’t consider myself an expert on charter law, I think after covering city politics for 10 years, I have a pretty good feel for what ‘works’ and what ‘doesn’t work’. The current CRC isn’t working out so well.

  1. Correction:

    “A couple of other citizens have hinted to me they will be speaking out about it too.”

  2. You will have to watch the end of the meeting, Entenman and Huether say a bunch of Bullshit about how the selection process is fair. Give me a fucking break. I applied to be on the CRC board and didn’t get 1) and interview or even 2) a courtesy letter thanking me for my application. When every single member was a contributor to your campaign, it is hard to say the process is ‘Fair’

  3. Mr. Mayor – please save us the time of explaining how the process works for the committees. We’re not that frickin’ stupid to know that you stacked this committee for your own well-being. You are demeaning and embarrassing for those of us that watch this process on a weekly basis. And as for you Mr Entenman – quit patting the Mayor on the back and looking like a pool boy for him. Your antics with the EC was enough to make most of us physically sick. To continue is really nauseating.

  4. Gotta love I.L. for whipping out the ‘dictator’ term. Good stuff. While it may be a bit harsh, it was very fitting in this situation.

    As Diamond Jim and his comments about volunteerism. What a joke. I noticed he didn’t mention that Dick and Dennis profit from city contracts. ‘Oh, they don’t get paid.’ Whatever Jim.

  5. Thanks for the link –
    My favorite parts=
    7 minutes – I.L at his best. I love as he’s walking away our MM tells him to have a good night. (when you know he was thinking something much more profane)
    13 minutes – I thought Andy was ok until he threw out the “I listen to NPR and avoid Fox” (oh, boy…one of those)
    16 minute mark – Did it look like one of them two was looking around for the donut tray wondering when the hell the meeting was going to end? What a pair them two are

  6. This site and Jennifers are near as I can tell, the only places where this CRC good ol boy thing is even being mentioned. That is the really sad part. Our local media, once again, is asleep at the wheel. Mr. Ellis, I suspect you read this and Jennifers Musings. In the past you have shown you have a pair. Show us on this topic.

  7. I have two guesses on that one.

    1) I think some of them wanted to respond to the mayor’s comments

    2) I. L. yelled out at the end and he sounded like he wanted to respond to the mayor’s comments.

  8. If you are passing the gavel – aren’t you in theory basically starting a debate? This was MMM’s way of being able to comment (which normally you cannot do) and then leave the public hanging with him having the last word. EMBARRASSING once again. And the sad part was – a majority of the council bought into these shenanigans AGAIN. I will give Brown and Karsky props for doing the right thing instead of the easy thing. The rest were pathetic last night. This has turned into a three ring circus and I guarantee I will never vote for one of these people again.

  9. A South DaCola foot soldier sent me this;

    “The 2 councilors didn’t vote yes to adjourn because a member of the audience tried to address the mayor after he talked to Tim for 5 minutes. It was the guy who called the Mayor a dictator (I.L.) in an earlier comment. After they adjourned the guy yelled, “Thank you for chastising us Mr. Mayor!”. It was the most entertaining 32 minute city council mtg ever. AND they voted in solidarity to move the meeting day decision to MAY until there is a new council in place. Erpenbach basically gave a speech saying it doesn’t matter if they move the day if they castrate the council through the charter revision’s proposed changes. It was an 8-0 vote. Well planned out.”

    It was an entertaining 32 minutes, that is fo sho!

  10. I’d like to hear why Brown and Karsky voted “no” on adjournment. What more was left to be said after Entenman read his prepared statement and MMM once again misrepresented the truth?

    First, MMM claims city board and committee applicants are vetted by the sitting members on each committee. But that’s impossible for the CRC as the term of the last committee members had expired more than one year ago! He failed to appoint this committee in a timely manner.

    Second, I can speak from experience as a member on one of these city committees. We have had no input on the appointment of any new or renewing members during MMM’s term. We never see an application and we’re never asked for an opinion. The entire process is handled inside the Mayor’s office behind closed doors.

    MMM – wonder why fewer and fewer people trust you with each passing week? Because actions speak louder than words. Your words tonight ring hollow; however, your action in appointing political contributors and friends to do your heavy-lifting on the CRC is very loud and very clear.

  11. I must be missing something. What is the connection between the CRC powerplay and moving commission meetings from monday to tuesday nights?

    Jim E. There was a time when I respected what you have built. Not anymore. You are a tool.

  12. Still a little mad at myself for missing the parking lot tussle. I guess the mayor called a citizen a ‘fool’ for what they said during public testimony, and the citizen called him a ‘rich prick’

    It will all be explained at Tuesday night’s council meeting. I might show up for this . . . .

  13. It will all be explained at Tuesday night’s council meeting. I might show up for this . . . .

    It will? Could be worth the price of the ticket.

  14. Yeah, I suggest showing up in person, because if it is webstreamed on the AL’s site, you may have to pay for it.
