  1. “I used to support Walmart adjacent to single family homes, now I don’t… guess you could say I’m rolling back my opinion on the matter.”

  2. It takes courage to do the right thing and stand alone. Hurrah for our leaders who place the people first. I guarantee the people take note. Potentially and hopefully, April will usher in some needed change!

  3. Jamison doesn’t need a smiley face because he was the biggest and most original smiley face last year when council voted on it. And you, DL, were right alongside him cheering the project on. Where’s your smiley face?

  4. As I remember the 69th and Cliff discussion there was a multimillion dollar street to nowhere. The location had buffering plus it included a viaduct to prevent backups to the apartments, stadium, a private school. The issue was also fought on the small lot, large building and the ‘children’ going to school not being safe around a Walmart crowd’s traffic.

  5. Not sure what buffering you are thinking of testor since that proposed location backed up directly against residential neighbors. Maybe they don’t matter though since they are “just apartments”. However if you look to the Northwest of that proposed location, you find more single family homes directly across the street… actually closer than any of the homes on 85th and Minnesota would ever be to the proposed Walmart.

The viaduct is a non-issue as that simply has to do with the train and wasn’t connected to the proposed Walmart.

You are correct that the ‘children’ were made a pivotal point, just as the proximety to the school was. The odd thing is, that school is much closer than any school is to 85th and Minnesota, yet SON complains that there are three schools too close to that location to allow a big box store (what the other two are I’m unsure).

So we are hearing all the same arguments, yet due to the building to land ratio of the 69th and Cliff location it was a far less suitable site for a big box store… and yet Jamison supported it 100%. This time around he doesn’t – yet we simply can’t figure out why.

The only thing that makes sense is he is trying to differentiate him from the current administration as he is running for Mayor. Beyond that there is no logical reason to vote for 69th and Cliff but against 85th and Minnesota when 85th and Minn is clearly a much more suitable location in every aspect.

  6. Craig, I was trying to remember all the logic being expressed. I personally was not enamored with the location. I always felt the Walmart could have worked if we had the infrastructure in place to put it a little further south on the land now purchased by Sioux Falls College.

  7. BTW, Jamison maybe looking at the big box location process differently because he has been hammered by different neighborhoods with their different concerns. It is a process of education and politics. Nothing more, nothing less.

  8. I’ll agree it is a process of politics… not sure how much education had to do with it unless it is learning what it takes to stand apart from a political opponent.
