9 Thoughts on “Bang for our buck?

  1. The District will fail because of it’s poor location. Because as everyone knows, MMM has decreed the arena area as the entertainment district in this town!

I’m not much of a mosh-pit type – I’ll take a Symphony concert at the Pavilion over Justice Beaver* every day and twice on Sundays.

    *possible misspelling

  3. I welcome more options in town, but considering The District is a new concept and one which is trying appeal to a slightly more intimate crowd it will be interesting to see how they do in their first two years. Sioux Falls doesn’t exactly have the best track record at keeping those types of venues open.

I agree with Craig. I’m hoping for the best for the District. Success will depend on the bookings and the user experience (sound, acoustics, sitelines, etc..). Pepper knows what they are doing when it comes to shows but throwing in a full service restaurant and event type thing into the mix is definitely going to be a challenge for them (Good staff will help this greatly). It will be interesting to see how they handle it. Obviously, hoping for better smaller national acts to choose SF on their way east and west. The venue will also be great for the bigger local acts like Soulcrate and other small local groups to gain exposure through opening slots. It would also be great if it ends up helping spark more of a scene. Lat 44 is great for intimate acoustic stuff…right…but a venue like this will be great for inspiring the youngins to get off thar darn compooters and XBoxer’s and pick up a gall darn geetar. Just wish it was dtown…that is all.

  5. I think the mixed use of the facility (weddings, corporate events, concerts) etc. will help with the cash flow. I think if it was strictly a bar (Like the Vault) they would struggle. But you are correct, they will have to have a good staff and the restaurant will have to do well or they will be in trouble. I also know that Jerrod and Terry Taylor (who is helping with the promotions) are very aggressive, unlike the Podunk booker over at the Pav.

Literally on the floor crying. This was too funny!

  7. CC, maybe we can buy David Graham’s weed and dirtville and put up a gigantic circus tent and hold concerts there. I bet if I contact Milwaukee’s best brewery, they will give us a bulk discount on kegs.

That sounds like a rockstar business plan to me!
