Even though it has not been confirmed, I just heard that planning commission member Denny Pierson may be challenging Erickson.

This is good to hear for a couple of reasons. First off, Erickson needs a challenger. Secondly, I have often liked Pierson’s citizen friendly stances on the commission.

I think Pierson will have to resign his commission seat if he decides to run. Denny is an insurance agent.

13 Thoughts on “Does council candidate Erickson have a challenger for the At-Large B seat?

As a member of the Planning Commission, he and Commissioner Steve Gaspar have cast some tough, controversial votes that indicate they actually do listen to citizens.

Recently, I heard Christine Erickson interviewed on a local radio program. She appears to have very little experience and knowledge regarding city policies and local issues.

  2. But, But, But, she is a mother and part-time secretary for her realtor husband? Seems that is more qualifications then a retired stock/banker something or another and a part-time newsletter writer . . . wait.

Just give us fresh meat. The present council is monkey types. See, hear, speak nothing. Someone who stands up to the mayor and promotes Home Rule repeal.

  4. The next council makeup will be very interesting.

  5. I don’t believe there is any legal restriction against serving as both a city councilor and a planning commissioner. In fact, in many SD cities, Planning Commissions are required to have councilor members.

  6. I think city ordinance requires that you can’t be on a board at the same time, Litz got in trouble for this a few years back. Besides, why would Denny be allowed to vote on zoning items ‘twice’? He may however be able to serve on the commission until he is sworn in as councilor.

  7. While you are commenting on Erickson, have you taken the time to meet her, speak with her, or anything else? I have, and she is very sharp, very passionate about public service, and is willing to work hard.

  8. Karma, I already said she was more qualified then other two female councilors 🙂 Still won’t be voting for her, Denny is the better candidate. Also, you only have to look at Erickson’s voting record in the Legislature to know what kind of councilor she will be, RUBBERSTAMP.

I also have a problem with politicians that jump from different positions in this state, always looking for the greener pasture.

What are Erickson’s accomplishments during her time in the South Dakota Legislature?

  10. She voted with her party about 99.9% of the time? Next question.
