Besides the fact that he is using a city director in his campaign materials (Mark Cotter) on his FB Page. He seems to be taking credit for a lot of things.

So let’s clarify for the voters;

1) Cleaning up after a natural disaster. First off, I find it a bit strange that someone would be using a natural disaster as a campaign issue. Secondly, it was the work of Public Works, city employees and the countless volunteers that deserve the credit on this one.

2) The Events Center. The private campaign group, Build it Now, the voters, the multiple task forces and tax dollars are what got the Events Center rolling.

3) Building a luxury hotel downtown with the use of tax rebates (TIF’s) and a taxpayer funded River Greenway bulkhead. Once again, the assistance of government money and programs with the approval of the city council is what spurred DT growth.

4) Better air travel. Well, according to my commenters just a few weeks ago, the Mayor had nothing to do with this, or did he? Still a mystery.

I wish Mike luck, but I also wish he would campaign fairly, and give credit to the council and citizen taxpayers on these projects. Without the money, manpower and the city’s legislative body, many of these ‘accomplishments’ would not have happened.

And just for fun, read his accomplishments page. The ‘not tied to special interests’ and ‘low airfares’ made me chuckle.

  1. HAD HE CALLED FOR THE GUARD IN WE COULD HAVE GIVEN THAT MONEY TOSOUTH DAKOTANS INSTEAD OF ALL THE CARPET BAGGERS FROM OUT OF STATE.through the prper channels
    .

  2. My man mic (as in microphone) will soon saturate the airwaves with major toot his horn. I suggest a block party at Minervas corner where an old boat anchor TV is smashed each time a Lloyd & Denny sponsored mic commercial comes on. 3rd floor at McKennon is gonna be busy with sound torture patients.

  3. Pathloss great comments, let’s have a block party at 85th and minn too. If he doesn’t get reelected I’m sure Craig Lloyd has a min wage job waiting for him. selling crap like the guy did dancing most of the summer at 41st and Louise dressed as a woman, scary isn’t it. Even RMB his investor buddies at 85th and Western might let him scoop snow. Too bad 85th and Western corner won’t be a work live place that Jeff Schmitt keeps harping on that we all need in his idea of a community of Shape Places crap that was in the AL today. I guess he forgot to tell the Planning and Zoning and the Council they should have listened to the neighbors and built his dream of Three Fountains, oh wait that would have taken customers away from Wally World at 85th and Minn. I forgot that was Mics big thing so Shape Places would have not made a damn bit of difference. Don’t forget that Staggers and all but 2 of the Council love mic. Staggers at a recent council meeting even stated that the council does not follow ordinances. Why is mic not using that as an accomplishment???

  4. In his defense he said Sioux Falls is getting things done. He didn’t take personal credit for anything and is merely asking for support to lead the effort.

Successes or failures, one has to admit the Mayor is the driving force just as a CEO gets credit for the successes of a company even though it may be the hard work of thousands that made it happen.

DL: “First off, I find it a bit strange that someone would be using a natural disaster as a campaign issue. “

We saw Hurricane Katrina become a campaign issue for Obama. We saw Hurricane Sandy become a campaign issue for Christie. We saw the Spencer Tornado become a campaign issue for Janklow… twice.

It happens all the time. If the response to the event was positive (Spencer and Hurricane Sandy) those in power at the time will take credit and use it to their advantage. If the response was negative (Hurricane Katrina) the opposition will use it to their advantage.

Politicians like to take credit for a lot of things… they would probably claim they were responsible for the sun coming up every 24 hours too if they didn’t think it might get them in trouble with their Christian base.

  5. The big money is behind Huether, he has followed through on his promises (generally), and Jamison is running on street lights and a goo goo platform. Won’t cut it. Huether has it locked down. Sorry DL

  6. Look at how an insecure bully, who took the credit for how the state of New Jersey ‘recovered’ from Sandy, is now in ‘saving’ mode. He is doing everything he can do to save his ass from the courtroom of law and public opinion. He is throwing everyone he can under the bus he is driving so he can preserve his run for the Presidency.

We have a former bully governor who is flying away from everything he used to claim credit for. Why do I bring these tidbits up again? There are so many more politicians we could discuss to help understand what is happening to our current mayor.

Our current mayor has to be in full blown PR / marketing mode just to keep the momentum. If the momentum is slowed, people will have time to look beneath the hood to really see the problems.

The word is he has a history of being a bully and micro manager of everything. He is very shallow. In my work I have found the best salespeople have this trait. If the systems are in place to audit progress, not a problem. He has hired and/or controls the auditors. He gets his way because he controls the legal staff, not to make sure he does the job legally, but to find loopholes in the law to get his way.

He wants everything to be pretty, like a used car salesman always washing the dust off and putting Pledge on the plastic. As a sub prime credit card marketing man, his jobs have required others to keep him honest and get the company out of trouble.

Salesman will always take credit for everything good so they can claim the commission check. If someone else gets in the way of the credit, the commission has to be shared. MMM can’t let the commission be split.

To all you “average Joe” voters (and there are many of you!), remember this statement Q has made when you step into that voting booth in April.

Our current Mayor’s philosophy of “get ur done at any cost” has created an atmosphere of mistrust amongst average joes, business owners and other elected officials.

My vote in April will be for Jamison.

  8. I credit Huether for getting us a new daily flight to Beijing on that United jumbo-jet he’s got in his pamphlet! Love seeing that baby fly over my house everyday!
