First with Jamison’s fundraiser (I heard ticket sales have been very good so far) now with a letter of encouragement for Bonita;
I have known Bonita Schwan for more than 20 years. I met her through my wife and got to know her better through our work together volunteering for Make-A-Wish. It didn’t take me long to gain a sincere admiration for her and her spirit. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Bonita on many charitable events, and I know she’s been at the forefront of many more. Bonita is a smart, kind, ambitious, philanthropic person — the kind of person you want on your team. One of those rare individuals who not only stand up for their own beliefs but are even more motivated to stand up for the needs of others. She has been a true voice for people throughout her life, and, in Bonita’s case, “voice†isn’t limited to talking, it’s much more about doing. She is a unique blend of almost always having an uplifting smile on her face mixed with the confidence, skills and bravery needed to take on modern-day Goliaths.
I was happy to learn that Bonita Schwan is running for City Council representing the Southeast District in Sioux Falls, and I would ask that, if you live in our neck of the woods, you strongly consider giving her your support.
Kory Van Sickle
Hey, it doesn’t hurt to have the lead singer of Sioux Falls’ favorite R & R band endorsing you.
Not only is she the wonderful kind of person Kory mentioned, but with her governmental experience in Iowa it is exactly who we need on our council!
I’m not sure how I will vote until the rest of the Fireflies make their endorsements.
Bonita has a variety of experiences to bring to the job–her work in Iowa but also the things she has been involved with in Sioux Falls. My experience in working with her is that she is very approachable and she is diligent.
Bonita is experienced, intelligent and a hard worker! She will be a asset to the City Council and to her district!
Scott 🙂
What’s her views on the 4 ballot questions regarding Spellerberg, snowgates, shape places and Walmart?
He’s trying to make up for appearing in that Salvation Army christmas thing.
I’m waiting to hear Janitor Bob’s endorsements.
I am sure she is against the new Walmart since she is the one that got it on the ballot. I also know her home is right across from the proposed Walmart addition. My only worry is she is a one issue candidate trying to save “her” backyard.
I haven’t been paying all that much attention – is there an opponent yet? If not -what does it matter?
Ruf, if you don’t think there is an opponent, let’s run with that.
Rick Kiley is running against her. He seems a little long winded in his answers, but seems to be a fair rounded man.
Oh I see there is.
Well good then.
I met her recently and was very impressed. Her background makes her more than qualified. What worries me is (if elected) she’ll face off with city government and realize the corruption cannot be circumvented. I support women in government. They seem to have a better sense for citizen benefit. I regret how Debra Owen was scuttled but she’s found a better place. I don’t read the Argus but read the Pierre & Rapid papers when I’m west. Lorre Gill (mayor of Pierre) has been excellent & should run for governor. I suspect Bonita will progress unless the good old boys find a way to run her off like they did for Debra.
She is not a one issue candidate, but the zoning problems certainly got her (and the neighborhood’s) attention. She is absolutely the best choice for this council seat.
