The tribes can legally grow and sell marijuana;

The Oglala Sioux Tribal Council this year rejected a proposal to allow marijuana on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Law and Order Committee Chairwoman Ellen Fills the Pipe says marijuana is a drug, and her gut feeling is that the tribe won’t allow its cultivation.

Maybe next time Woster needs to interview an official with the last name ‘Kills the Pipe’ instead.

  1. There are 7 reservations in SD. Each has sovereign right to grow and sell marijuana. Voters voted it down but (likely) this state will become another place for pot. This is another Grand Falls casino thing. There will be pot commerce and taxation all around us but not here. I’m sure there’ll be self-righteous city cops stopping people coming back from Flandreau. The jail will be more crowded and there will be not enough budget to pay for it.

    Isn’t it time to (generally) legalize pot? It’s not worse than alcohol, enforcement is a major expense, violators are not violent, and there’s major tax revenue potential that could replace what’s been lost from tobacco.

  2. This is just an extension of the policy that the feds already extend to those states that have legalized cannabis. They’re finally treating tribal governments as a sovereign entity on an equal footing with the states.

    It about freaking time.
