It’s one thing to have Craig Lloyd’s wife on the Parks Board, now one of his highest ranking executives will serve on the Airport Board. Talk about stacking the deck. In fact the mayor is so proud of the appointment (Item#68), he is throwing Raquel Blount a press conference celebrating her appointment;

Airport Authority Board members are responsible for managing and maintaining the Sioux Falls Regional Airport, a pivotal role for a growing city. Come to this news conference to hear from Mayor Huether why the new board member was chosen and why this is an important step to keep the Sioux Falls Regional Airport moving forward and thriving.

We can look at this several different ways, but if this doesn’t scream conflict of interest call me a wanker and send me to bed without dinner.

3 Thoughts on “Mayor Huether appoints VP of Commercial Properties for the city’s largest developer to Airport Authority Board

    I have to question the legality of this appointment:
    Raquel Blount – Airport Authority Board
    Appointed for a term from March 2016 to March 2021 (to replace Ruth Krystopolski).

    I checked the current Board Member page on the city’s web site and found this:
    •Ruth Krystopolski – Term Expires – October 2016

    Technically, MMM can appoint the replacement to finish the current term through October 2016 – if Ruth resigned. But he can’t just arbitrarily give the new member a 5-year term (subject to reappointment for another five years in 2021) when there is another 7 months left on the current term.

    Appointments and contracts are preconceived without a vote and/or council approval by the real estate magnant (Huether). He’s responsible for Denny Dome, the Fish Bowl, railroad acquisition, tennis center, hotels, etc.. Somehow mayor has become a business. Privately, there’d be federal trade violations intervention but this is government.

    At this point, let Huether finish. He can’t be stopped legally because of the unconstitutional city charter. It’ll take a new charter, city bankruptcy, and reversal of appointments/contracts at the end of his term. The next mayor must address these matters. Once city resources are exhausted, there’s nothing left. Doesn’t matter who will be mayor. I already respect him. From bottom everywhere is up.

    Don’t forget she and a room full of lawyers at city hall delivered a South Walfart for us all to be held in awe with a stupid Shape Places that Jeffery Schmitt found on the Internet. Does she have something on MMM , could he owe her a TIF. LOL
