Do as I say, not as I do?
Something like that.
Bruce presented this data to me a few weeks ago. I have to be honest with you. I was not a wee-bit surprised. I think I probably yawned or farted, or both, when he told me the voting records.
Apathy in Sioux Falls is just as purple as a Viking’s jersey. People really don’t give a shit unless it has to do with their pro-sports boner;
A finding: 40,200 Voters cast ballots in the 2011 Event Center election, of which 11,118 never voted locally again. Let’s hope they’re getting the promised tickets.
Get out!!!!
Not really.
But what gets even more comical is the short attention span these candidates have. If you can’t remember your voting record, that’s fine, but don’t lie about it. Never thought I would agree with Vern Brown, but he really nailed that squirrel to corn bin wall with this quote;
“If they’re not voting in the elections, clearly you’re not interested in the issues,†said Brown, who held a seat at Carnegie Town Hall from 2004 to 2012. “Sometimes I wonder if candidates recognize how serious the job is. I don’t care if it’s school board or city council, you’re dealing with people in a personal way. You’re effecting people’s livelihood, their property and spending millions of dollars.â€
That last sentence says it all? Doesn’t it? These nose-pickers show up to the lottery drawing every couple of years and wonder why they don’t win.
I find it very encouraging that although Mr Warren has only recently become old enough to vote, he appears to have been keenly interested in Politics for quite a while.
I recall reading about his involvement last year, in a campaign against the proposed changes to term dates.

He appears to have been able to get over 200 signatures (170 students and 49 supporters online) in support of his position, which I think is rather impressive.
If Mr Warren were old enough to have been able to vote in the last 5 elections, I suspect he would be there, alongside Mr Starr, as a candidate with a consistent voting record.
I do find it very discouraging that some candidates seem to have been rather uninterested in politics in the past, and think that a turn-up of any less than 4 out of 5 for voting-age candidates for recent local elections is totally unacceptable. I would even go as far as to say it is really rather bad for anyone running for office to miss even 1 out of 5 of the elections, without good reason.
What’s truly disappointing is the 2 who own this town throw money at advertising and get their candidate elected. I’ve noticed the sudden Noble billboards and TV spots. There’s something askew when your advertising is 5 times your public compensation. Noble is going for at large. Very important for keeping Huetherism and unrestricted developer approvals.
I’m tired of candidates stating the city is hometown proud with Midwest values. On my way 2 miles to the candidates BS at Carnegie Hall last night, there were a dozen sirens and 2 vagrant arrests. Relent your praise and see some reality.
Reminds me of the old adage: “I don’t practice what I preach because I am not the type of person I am preaching to.”
